Miriam
Eau de Parfum
by Tableau de Parfums

The Scoop
Miriam, the first fragrance of the Tableau de Parfums line, reaches back in time. It is a fragrance inspired by the first episodic short of Woman’s Picture, featuring Ann Magnuson in the title role, which gives life to a character in the middle of a storm of memories and an uncertain future.

Miriam feels very much vintage with a present-day character. It references the heady, diffusive fragrances of the forties and fifties. “There is something slightly provocative in this perfume, ” says Andy Tauer, its creator. “It isn’t naughty, but bold. It makes a statement, for sure. It is a vintage-like fragrance, built with raw materials that reach back in time. A grand perfume constructed in the tradition of French perfumery, Miriam is the kind of fragrance they don’t make much anymore.”

[update to my comment below:] After more sniffing, I am just awestruck. MIRIAM is gorgeous, and like all of Andy's creations, wonderfully *intelligent* (Yes, that's a descriptor I use to describe some scents that dazzle the mind as they win your heart). MIRIAM is (since comparisons are already on the table) warmer, fuller, more maddeningly, swaggeringly convincing than Chanel No. 5). The heartbreaking rose note and the glassily-chic vetiver base gleam with nostalgic Art Deco powders... and combine with a slightly sharper, reedy, hay-like note: the magical note that pushes this fragrance into greatness. Sophisticated, compelling, imperious, paradoxically cool/warm, ultra-feminine like no mainstream woman's number is today. I almost pity the poor hetero male who gets a noseful of this intoxicatingly alabaster creation... He won't know what hit 'im. MIRIAM is literally irresistible.

This is a gorgeous fragrance with luscious allusions to great midcentury masterpieces. Orris, aldehydes and musks give a powdery, feminine base for rich-rich notes of violet, rose, vanilla and sandalwood. Luxurious, grand and authentic, this will become a favorite for many.

This is a quality perfume with a true vintage feel. It reminds me of the soft fur of a kitten when I bury my nose in it. Seriously, both Caron Montaigne and Patou Caline come to mind. It quickly became one of my favorites. A little spritz goes a long way with a magnificent and yet calm dry down.

I love the Tauer brand, but I'm having a tough time loving this particular creation. I love Chanel no. 5 but to me they don't smell identical as some reviewers have noted here. This smells more vanillic, more citrusy, and also fizzier. Chanel no. 5 has that indescribably beautiful amber-rose-jasmine-myrrh heart that this one replicates, but mixed results. Anyhow, it's not bad, but I'll take most of Tauer's other scents over this one any day.

Oh my god, you guys, I just had to leave another review to tell you. I just got the bottle and the scent of it sprayed is even more beautiful than dabbed. The powder takes on this sparkling, very slightly green quality, especially in the first 15 minutes. Not enough to call it herbaceous, but just a little kick of effervescence and sparkle in an already gorgeous perfume. This fragrance is just a wonderland of beautiful scents, I'm afraid of missing something if I stop smelling it.

I have Mirriam on my left wrist and vintage, (pre 1960s) Chanel No5 perfume on my right. I can't tell the difference. Andy, what did you do!! this is so beautiful. When my grandmother died in 1962 she left in her wine cellar 7 and a !/2 Pints (you read that right) of Chanel No5 perfume. 2 8oz bottles, 4 4oz bottles, several 2oz bottles, ones, halves, third's and quarters all carefully stored and all unopened. I was given them all. and have been slowly using them up. Nothing has ever smelled so sublime, so magnificent, so overwhelmingly beautiful until this Mirriam. New No5 is not the same at all (I don't know why) but it is different. The old stuff I have just has so much depth. So if you like the new No5 you will really love Mirriam. Andy I love you.

I have tried all of Andy's offerings, and if ever I were to be only allowed one or two perfumes I would have to choose Lonestar Memories, and LdD Maroc. If you poured a little of each one of Andy's perfumes into one bottle and shook it you would get Mirriam. With any other collection you would get a witches brew. Mirriam seems to have a little bit of each one of Andy's perfumes in it. However, it is another tauer and it is unique. I really like it because it has a huge majesty to it, a greatness. It seems like this one is complete, as if he has been working towards this all the time. Whilst the other ones I like are beautiful, each is like a puzzle piece to be worn only when a certain feeling strikes, Mirriam is Done!!! for me its Andy's first masterpiece. It is a grownup scent, for a woman not a girl and if that were not enough there is even a little Chanel No 5 in there. How much better can this man get.. Well done Andy.

Miriam is a great scent. I do not think it can compare with Tauer's other scents, however. It is strong upon first spray, then mutes out. It is long lasting.

Miriam is a wonderfully complex scent. It has a definte Tauer signature in its first spray. I got the purse spray, so I could enjoy it in the classroom. I recommend using only a slight amount. It packs a definite punch. I like his other scents actually better.

I got a sample of Miriam from Luckyscent and WOW. Didn’t have enough room in twitter to give a full review. But it’s a masterpiece. You made a perfume that smells like what a beautiful, unknown old perfume would smell like. Soft, lingering, powdery but vivid, abstract floral, like memories of hugs from your mother when you were a child. Perfectly matched to the movie. It beats No. 5 edp at its own game. Didn’t think I’d fall in love with a scent like this, but here I am. It’ll be joining Dzing! as one of my personal favorites. Thank you so much! It’s a revelation.

Wow. A very beautiful and special perfume. Starts out both soft and sparkling, powder and oakmoss and perfectly abstract florals. Dries down to soft powdery musks. It's true, they don't make many perfumes like this anymore. Andy Tauer is a genius. He created a perfume that smells like what a beautiful old perfume would smell like.

Interesting. Right off the bat, this smells very much like Chanel No 5 pure parfum. After about 30 minutes, there is a vanillic dry down. It's very pretty. Dry down came quickly, will have to test again to see how long this lasts.
