White Gardenia Petals

Eau de Parfum

by Illuminum

The Scoop
As fragrant as a vase of white flowers, quivering in the breeze by an open window, this is a delicate and refined perfume.

The top note of Lilly evokes a tropical seaside location, whilst the heart notes of White Gardenia, Muguet and Jasmine bring a trio of white flowers into play. Amber Wood underscores this light and capricious bouquet.

It has been reported by numerous media outlets that White Gardenia Petals was the perfume which Kate Middleton wore to the Royal Wedding.

I like it. And really, I don't get the bad reviews. I mean okay, if you're expecting a true gardenia scent, then I understand… this is not that. But it is nice for what it is, which is exactly what the name suggests: the scent of but a few petals. It's not necessarily delicate, nor is it green. It's more of a clean and subtly sweet, light white floral scent with low sillage and moderate longevity that is seasonless likely to be appropriate for any situation, at any time of day. It's pretty enough that, to me at least, it's not at all boring, but yes, I can agree that it's not going to win any medals for originality. In a nutshell, I'd say that if you're a true perfume lover who loves bold and complex scents, you won't be pleased. But if you're just someone looking for something that smells nice, feminine and somewhat floral, it's worth a try.

Amazing perfume!!!!!I live last 2 hours in the cloud of divine flowers and dreams...Before this my favorite was Portrait of a Lady by Frderic Malle and now this one is new star...

It is very clean and elegant fragrance. I discovered that gardenia works very well with my skin chemistry. Love it!

I really like this perfume. It is so light and soft and not overbearing. It has a scent that changes over time while wearing it. I also agree with some of the comments about the "soapy" smell after it dries down-but I really like the delicate softness which makes this so different from other perfumes I have ever tired. It may not be for everyone but it is a demure scent! Also, I am so happy with the free sample fragrances sent to me - they picked out what I had wanted to try :-)

I realize this may not be everyone's cup of tea; it's not a luscious, meaty Gardenia like you'll find in some of the more well-known Gardenia-themed perfumes, but it is a gardenia with a wonderful spring in her step. I actually like the lift the lily gives to the gardenia. This is a breezy fragrance, and I find it very easy to wear. The challenging part is that this DOES walk a very fine line between natural and artificial smelling. I can understand the references to hairspray, but luckily I like this very much on me, and it doesn't veer too close to hairspray territory on my skin. If you're looking for a straight-forward, drop-dead gorgeous Gardenia, try Van Cleef and Arpels Gardenia Petale.

Absolutly beautiful. Very clean and delicate. There are so many wonderful notes to this fragrance, noticable with your body movement. So glad I tried this as a sample will definately invest in this.

At first, sorry if my english is not verry well. I tried this fragance because princess catherine wore it at wedding. And I love it ! It's very fresh and discrete. It's looks like the princess. A negative point, it give me a little headache... But it's very great !

I'm glad I tried the sample first. The similarity to "hairspray" that so many others have mentioned is absolutely correct. It smells like a sweet, musk-like hairspray.

I absolutely love this! It's gardenia, not too sweet and sticky. very elegant.

l got a sample of this because l liked the sound of the notes, but l'm extremely disappointed; l seem to be the only person here on whom this didn't work at all. l don't get any floral notes, certainly not gardenia, just a plasticky, hairspray-like smell, followed by a dry, synthetic coconut & clean, musky woods. l find it very light, very bland, & l'm so relieved l got a sample first. Please folks, if you truly love gardenia (as l do), try before you buy!

I absolutely love this - I ordered the sample first, and then splurged on a full bottle. This is very different than my usual 'go to' scent, which M Micallef's Note Vanilee. Something about this particular fragrance is just so fresh, pretty and elegant all at the same time. I love it and have received compliments on it, always a good thing! :)

Tuberose and a hint of coconut, but as it dries down there is a freshness that keeps the overall fragrance from becoming cloying and annoying. Sweet, creamy floral with a nice soft base. I like this, but it should be called Tuberose Petals. My holy grail Gardenia perfume is still Black Gardenia by Michelle Bergman.

This is very interesting, rather a blend of gardenia and powder. It's grown on me--first I thought, "If I want to smell like gardenia, I'll wear gardenia(like Kai), and if I want to wear powder(ie white musk), I'll wear "powder"(for me, Il Profumo Musc Bleu, which is right-out-of-the-shower heaven). But then, I figured out this dries to rather a sweet, LIGHT gardenia, so if you want a gardenia that smells much less "heavy", this could be it. I agree with a former reviewer that it would be lovely on a young woman, 18-early 30's, but I'm 44 and it also works beautifully on a woman of any age when, like me, you live in a hot climate and the heavy, strong scents either reek, don't work on you, or are nauseating in the heat. Excellent choice by the Duchess--it would make for a gorgeous wedding scent, too. Pretty and fresh... :-)

I just got mine today! This smells amazing...I smell everything in the description...HIGHLY recommended!!!

White Gardenia Petals Illuminum The first impression is of soapy skin and fresh air, next the delicate scent of white flowers wafts in and out, but the dry down is all coconut. Very simple and fresh, not migraine inducing and probably won't offend anyone. I love it for those no scent days, it's more like a fresh aura than perfume.

This scent really surprised me. I will admit, I ordered a sample out of pure curiosity due to the royal wedding hype. Seeing as how I don't love floral scents, a sample was all I was willing to spend money on. I received the sample, put some on and immediately thought it was a very pretty scent. Then, forgetting later that I had it on (I couldn't smell it on myself after about an hour) but my boyfriend was all over me. He kept asking what perfume I was wearing and kept telling me how good I smelled. I told him it was just a sample and I was just trying it out. He insisted I buy some. The thing I love most is that it's really not an overpowering scent. You can catch a whiff of it if I were to walk by you without smelling like I'd bathed in it. I will agree with the other reviewers on two points. A) I didn't catch any coconut notes either, but it was still just as beautiful, and B) There is definitely something a tad plasticky right away. It dissipated really quickly though leaving a really beautiful ladylike fresh floral scent. I would say this perfume is best on a young woman perhaps aged mid 20's to mid 30's. Very sophisticated but subtle. I will definitely buy a full bottle now.

Hmm, not what I was expecting. I was hoping for any, some coconut, but there is none I can pick up. It reminds me of the scent of hairspray. It's pretty and light, complex, but not really for me.

Fragrance is very fresh and clean, I love that it's not overpowering. People don't smell it as soon as you enter the room. It's light and delicate. It smells nothing like White Linen.

Once I smelled this, I was in love with it. I am not into any floral scents at all, so I was apprehensive to order this. The floral smell is not too heavy. There is a sweetness to it that is very unique. I have never smelled anything like it before.

Wow! I am pleasantly surprised by this. Reading some of the reviews and the comparisons to other perfumes made me unsure of how I would feel about it. As some other reviewers have mentioned, right after the first minute or so there is something "plasticky/screechy." Not terrible and it does dissipate quickly, so it is hardly a deal breaker. I can't think of a similar smelling perfume off the top of my head but it is so clean, fresh, and pretty smelling. It dries down to a very delicate scent and wears close to the skin. Like the other reviewers, I can't really find the coconut note in it but it is so soft and clean smelling it doesn't really matter. I am not a white floral person at all and I still think its amazing.

Perfectly nice, not at all interesting. This is every bit as uninspired as Michael Boadi's Boadicea the Victorious line, but without the pretty, pretty bottle. If you want a clean white floral that's a little screechy but not overpowering, it's worth a try, but probably not worth the money.

Fresh, clean with hints of white flowers. Gorgeous and sophisticated scent. Soft and not overpowering. Love this perfume!!!

Adorable, really beautiful and very unusual. In square terms would define it as the mixture of Nuit de Cellophane and Eau d'Issey Miyake. But in fact the scent is much more complex with a long and elaborate veil of multiple white flowers...

I really pick up a lot of the LotV in this. It's white and clean and a little innocent in nature. I sprayed a bit on and a few minutes later my teenager walked through and asked if I had sprayed Calyx....fortunately I love Calyx! So yes, this does have a bit of that tropical fruityness , at least in the topnotes. The drydown goes more toward "white floral" . A good scent for hot weather I think.

This smells exactly like Gucci Rush. Just one spray and will stay with you all day. I like it but is not something that I will buy
By Anonymous - from uk on 5/16/2011
I received mine today and have to say I am hugely reminded of Creed Spring Flower. The first 10 minutes or so of Petals is sharp and slightly plasticky. I have yet to pick up the coconut note. After the initial few minutes it develops into something beautiful, soft and elegant. Definitely lives up to it's white floral promise. A perfume you would have to lean in to smell but would be happy you did....
By Heather on 5/12/2011
I forgot to mentioned that it doesn't remind me at all of ESTEE LAUDERS white linen, it actually reminds me a bit of Dia for Amourage
By Anonymous - from London on 5/8/2011
I received my bottle last week and I have to say that is a trully pretty scent. It has a fresh, clean that reminds me of a tropical sea side, I can definitely smell the Gardenia and the Lily, and in the fist hour the coconut is there. it gets sweeter in the drydown.
