To celebrate Prince William’s royal wedding to Kate Middleton in April 2011, British perfumer Grossmith has relaunched Betrothal, its bridal scent originally created to honor Queen Mary’s betrothal in 1893. The latest in Grossmith’s new generation of modern perfumes based on the house’s original formula, Betrothal also celebrates the marriage of bright citrus, rich flowers, and a subtly gourmand base of vanilla balanced with vetiver and warm woods.
At once diaphanous and sumptuous, delicate and spicy, Betrothal opens with a fresh burst of bergamot. It creates a dual impression of brightness and richness by balancing an exquisite Rose de Mai dipped in vanilla and powdered with orris alongside sharp-angled, indolic florals like ylang-ylang, narcissus, and jasmine.
As it dries down, Betrothal leaves your skin with a gorgeous veil of flowers mixed with vanilla, spice, and woods. A sensual yet delicate rose fragrance, it is no wonder that this perfume was once one of Grossmith’s most popular: the joyous Betrothal is touched with sensuality and grace.
