In memory of Annick’s passion for roses, Annick Goutal has created Rose Splendide, a new variation on the theme of roses. This eau parfumée is reminiscent of a stroll in a garden of roses filled with the morning dew. Reminiscent of a classic tea rose, Rose Splendide is pillow-soft, carefree, with just right balance green freshness and vanilla-pear sweetness. Delicate and pure.

Finally this August I married. I choose Rose Splendide not only because the rose is the flower of love but because this scent has a subtle sensuality about it. It is never too shameless or too naive. This is a scent of warm embraces and tender emotions.

I found this to be a very lovely rose - fresh, bright and well rounded. Florals do not usually smell great on me. Perhaps it's my chemistry but they tend to go either loud and sour or old-ladyish. I gravitate towards gourmands and patchouli fragrances. This is making me want to try more rose scents. I didn't get any hint of pear, instead I detected a bit of juicy red raspberry. The musk note comes out later and is a perfect compliment to the initial rosey-ness.

This is the first time for me to try any of Annick Goutal's line of fragrances, and I was hoping for a very robust rose smell, since the name was Rose Splendide. But to be perfectly honest, I don't detect or smell any rose whatsoever in this composition. In fact I was wondering if the rose would appear later in the drydown, but even then it never appeared or even remotely showed its face in the smell. What I do smell is pure magnolia and pear, (Barlett), with a faint musk probably ambergris of some kind, but atlas no rose. It is disappointing to have something labeled as rose, and not even get that as the initial base of the perfume is well, deceiving and quite frankly a huge let down, but anyone who likes intense magnolia and pear with a hint of musk floating in the background, this perfume is for you.
