Prends Garde a Toi Eau de Parfum by Ego Facto

“If I love you, you’d best beware!”... When Carmen sang this, she meant trouble. And Prends Garde ŕ Toi is one hell-raiser of a scent. Jean and Aurélien Guichard have taken the green floral genre and prodded it until it grew thorns. A tangy vegetal note, part absinth, part Artemisia and part tomato leaf – the essence of nettle, used for the first time in a fragrance – adds a huge splash of sap to a floral bouquet. Hyacinth and lily of the valley for the fresh, green feel; jasmine and lily for their narcotic headiness. But this bouquet has been thrown on the hot sand of a bullring, and odd, patchouli-tinged mineral notes rise from the base. Highly unusual and oddly compelling: a fitting tribute to Bizet’s Gipsy femme fatale. You’ve been warned.
