Vierges et Toreros
Eau de Parfum
by Etat Libre d’Orange

The Scoop
Vierges et Toreros confronts the forceful animalic notes that lie in its core with the daring floral accord in the same way that a torero’s muleta confronts a bull. In the case of Etat Libre d’Orange’s creation, the opulent, heady tuberose is the red cloth that teases our senses when set against the animalic and resinous accord of leather, patchouli and costus. Spicy, leathery, lusciously floral and incredibly sensual, Vierges et Toreros is entirely unique. Witness how, when it slowly unfolds on your skin, the tuberose starts fresh and innocent, then drops all pretense and reveals itself in all its sinful glory…and how sublime it smells when paired with leather. A masterpiece!
Vierges et Toreros Notes
Bergamot, pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, tuberose, ylang ylang, leather, animalic base, costus, patchouli and vetiver

I purchased a sample because it sounded intriguing and I like tuberose when it's done right. This is just too leather jacket for me, too animal. The dry down reminded me of motor oil. I have never before had the word "uncomfortable" pop into my head when trying a scent.

Terrific combination of creamy tuberose and very animalic leather, with peppery and earthy edges. This is one of the more unique takes on a tuberose fragrance - it's not a straight up floral, the floral notes here complement nicely the skanky, smoky leather hiding underneath. Simply put, it's one incredibly sexy fragrance. Worth a try!

This is definitely a different scent. I have had a sample of this for a while and hesitated to try it since it had tuberose. A scent I enjoy in it natural source but normally not in a fragrance. Vierges et Toreros opens up strongly with the pepper accords. I get hints of ylang ylang mixed with the cardomom & nutmet. You begin to think the tuberose get lost with the base notes (leather, patchouli and vetiver). As the fragrance begins to dry down and disappear, hints of tuberose awaken. Being of Spanish decent, I admired Toreros (Bull Fighters) and wished as a kid to be one (until I saw one gored). I enjoyed watching the beauty of the dance between the bull and the torero. Always remembering how the torero respected the bull. Like a bull this fragrance must be appreciated and approach it carefully. It is a masterpiece in how ELdO is able to put tuberose into a masculine scent.

I actually like smelling like a street bum that fell asleep in a warm pew.

Ghastly. I can believe that some punk, bad-boy perfumer (francais, bien sur) figured this was a clever concept, but how did this scent make it to market?? As soon as the alcohol-hot rising notes evaporated I was left with a "virginal" (as in BVM) vetiver-like incense and the aged, oxidized stink of the toreador’s sebum and sweaty horse-saddle. Yeah, I want to smell like a street bum who wandered into high mass to sleep in a warm pew.

Very pretty, however, and public friendly. At the end, the Virgins win over the bullfighters--a beautiful sweet fragrance. I expected something a little edgier.

Vierges et Toreros is a more tender take on leather: supple, curvaceous, with a bright orange top and the sweet heart of an animal. It's what skin should smell like: warm and naked. And yet it has that distinctive Etat Libre d'Orange signature: it's proud of its ravenous underbelly.
