No 88 borrows its name from the house number of the exclusive London shop of Check & Speake. Based on an original Elizabethan recipe, the scent, a signature blend of the brand, has achieved a cult status among perfume connoisseurs of both sexes. Its complexity, luxuriousness and elegant understatement give No 88 the unmistakably British character. A striking accord of cool bergamot and fiery geranium creates an attractive contrast in the top notes of the scent and sets the mood for the rest of the composition, where green, earthy, chilly vetiver mixes with warm, velvety sandalwood and where the soft, traditionally feminine notes of rose, cassie and frangipani are juxtaposed with the masculine mix of woods and resins. The effect is beautifully complex. For men, this would be that rare thing, a truly masculine rose…for women, a dark, spicy floral with lots of character. A masterpiece!
