Ellenisia
Eau de Parfum
by Penhaligons

The Scoop
The name Ellenisia was inspired by Elen, the ancient welsh word for nymph.

Ellenisia is perhaps our most extravagant floral, armfuls of thick white blooms oozing dizzying amounts of fragrance wrapped in swathes of sweet plum scented vanilla. As the green nostalgic shock of the violet and mandarin settle down you can close your eyes and just picture the bouquets of gardenia, jasmine and tuberose, a tumble of scented petals, the air awash with the promise of romance. The plum nectar is so addictive, a scent of slow simmering sugared plums, whipped through the vanilla.

Structured, layered, elegant, luxurious, white, creamy and utterly magical. A fairy tale fragrance.

I get tuberose first, a fleeting medicinal note ( the violet leaf? ) then a plummy, stale note with a hint of vanilla. Not the "tumble of scented petals" I was led to expect. Jasmine hovers in the background, but that staleness gets in the way. It becomes richer & creamier, but by the time it gets to that stage it's fading fast. Not for me.

This smells 99% like Chanel Gardenia in Les Exclusifs line. It is not a bad thing but I just don't like anything short of originality

Just one thing to add: it reminds me a bit fo l'Artisan'a "la chasse aux papillons", if you liked the latter but complained about its lasting power, then you should give Ellenisia a try.

I'm not much into florals. But this is the most beutiful handful of fresh flowers one can wish to wear. Not heady at all. I don't get much of the plum and I barely smell vanilla (I don't like vanilla), though Ellenisia does evoke a delicate sweetness. Some could argue it does not smell very original - and it might be true, but I have never tried a floral which manages such lightness and persistance, such confort and such sparks at the same time. A true pleasure. Full botlle worth.
