Mankind’s love affair with saffron has been going on for time immemorial. Known since antiquity, saffron was one of the most desired and expensive spices of ancient Greeks, Egyptians and Romans for its aroma, color and aphrodisiac properties. Zeus is said to have slept on a bed of saffron, while Romans used it to mark the paths for emperors and Hippocrates used it to heal. Zafferano (Italian for saffron) is a romantic love letter of a fragrance, mixing the warm, spicey hay-like beauty of saffron with the austere and striking notes of wild rose petals. As it evolves, jasmine, lily of the vally and raspberry flowers sweeten and entice, while a golden amber and cedar keep them at bay.
