Skarb
Eau de Toilette Concentrée
by Humiecki & Graef

The Scoop
Skarb means treasure in polish and its the name of the first perfume by Humiecki & Graef. No other than the famous perfumer Christophe Laudamiel himself, prize winning 'enfant terrible' of the perfume industry, created this extraordinary scent. Humiecki and Graef asked Laudamiel to create a perfume that captures the state of 'how men cry' - eruptive and sensual. Pictures from Slavic culture, as well as how they deal with melancholia and happiness served as inspiration. The result is a perfume that combines raw eruption, sensual strength, melancholic warmth and deep mysticism.

The form of the composition departs from convention as the scent is not constructed pyramidally as is traditional, but star-shaped. In contrast to the rigid categories of head, heart and base notes, the star-shape allows the scent to reflect deep emotions and the individual ingredients can be perceived.

In the centre of the star is the core of the emotions: the feeling of shed tears. The different points of the star represent the facets of the concept: the watery and purifying effect, a deep slavic soul, childhood memories, as well as the soft and animalistic feeling of naked skin. The scents of absinth, myrrh, patchouly, sandal wood .... reflect in succession the melancholia upon with the perfumer based his creation.

Skarb Notes
Absinth, myrtle, lovage, barley extract, musk, watery accord, carrot seeds, incense, myrrh, patchouli, orris, Roman chamomille, prune

Excellent. Personally I love it, but it's obviously polarising and would be tricky as a gift. Pathetic drivel from the marketers, everyone agrees on that.

I have to agree with much that has been written ... but for me, what seems to be unpleasant at first transforms into something natural on my skin. After an hour or two the scent settles into a subtle pepper, barley & myrrh - there is also a nice wet rooty undertone. I like this as a "summer night" or autumn fragrance. I would not wear this in the office - and I don't think I could wear it often, although I enjoy it. It's an - anchored to the earth as a man scent.

Skarb smells like Etat Libre d'Orange's utterly unwearable, utterly unpleasant Secretions Magnifiques, with vetiver thrown in, which takes the worst edge off that horrid cold, metallic, stale bodily, um, "secretions" accord and makes it slightly less nauseating. Slightly. And I like unconventional scents.

Really wonderful scent. There's an anise-type note i find that adds a lot to this water inspired scent. The price is high - on my wish list for now. Great for summer evenings out - a little goes a long way.

While I respect and admire the desire to produce an unconventional perfume, and while I'll heartily agree this is a very strange scent, it's not something I'd ever want to smell like. The "watery accord" dominates on me, too, but I find it incredibly unpleasant and totally unwearable.

This perfume captures the state of 'how men cry'. Yes, you'll cry once you realized you've plunked $210 for something that smells like a drugstore cologne. Would've give "No Star" if it were a choice.

Don't believe the harsh "Mark Birly" comment. Mark Birly is a drugstore quality fragrance. I had very low expectations for this tis frag because I haven't had much luck with anything that Christophe Laudamiel has created. I put on a sample one evening and expected it to disappear and be the ho hum frag of the month. This Eau de Toilette Concentree has excellent lasting power. This scent is for the modern business man who can safely wear this at the office with confidence. Super class in a bottle. The scent is subtle yet intriging. Fresh without smelling like laundry detergent. Slightly sweet making you want to sniff your wrist when no ones looking. Think money, class sophistication, sexy, fun, whimsical, mysterious and you've got an idea what this smells like. $210 for a bottle. Class cost money. How classy do you want to smell?

Silly ad copy, nice scent. The "watery accord" dominates but in a much smoother way than most aquatic scents, which smell like liquified Irish Spring. This scent smells like saltwater and earth, and if I were inclined to wear aquatic scents, this would be among my top choices.

Don't believe the star-shaped form composition crap. This is just a harsher Mark Birley.
