Patchouli (Cube Bottle)
Eau de Parfum
by Comme des Garcons LUXE

The Scoop
If you've never understood patchouli, if you've ever written off one of perfumery's most famous and infamous fragrances as too earthy or too strong, then you need to revisit your opinion and try CdG's Patchouli, a true king among its kind. The Sumatran patchouli used in this perfume is of the highest quality on the planet and is smooth and complex, full of soft edges rather than sharp, loaded with woody character and heaped with deep mystery and sensual charms. Silky and resinous opoponax and a full bodied oak extract are important players in this scent, while a robust sandalwood flows like a golden river throughout all phases. Bold and rich, it's so exquisite it could single handedly rehabilitate the popular and misunderstood patchouli and place it in its rightful place as one of the great fragrances of all time.

This made me smell like a Waffle House parking lot on a really hot day. It was all acrid tar and overly sweet maple on me.

When I first tried this, I could not stand it and washed it off in about 10 minutes. But I kept trying it every couple of weeks and have now come around to really liking it. On my skin it smells almost like over cooked gingerbread - a burnt molasses note, along with undercurrents of patchouli and woods. In hot weather it is overpowering, but perfect for fall and winter.

Woo wee, this has a really STRONG tar note on me. It dwarfs most of the patchouli. After a while it mellows out, and basically it smells like a camp fire. It's definitely an interesting fragrance, but I don't think I'll be wearing it often. It might be nice on a man though!

Although this isn't a traditional patchouli (and I'm a patchouli loving girl), I absolutely love it! It is so smooth and rich. I would imagine this is a patchouli that gourmands would love. It is warm, buttery, complex, honeyfied yummy patchouli. Of the 100 or so samples I've tried, this may well be my favorite of all of them. It is so sad that I can't afford to buy a whole bottle...

This is PATCHOULI FANTASTIC! Yes, it is a bit pricey but you are paying for exclusivity and quality. One thing for sure is that I will not have to be concerned with someone else smelling like ME by virtue of the fact that not everyone will pay the cost of this fragrance. This fragrance is NOT for everyone for many reasons; YOU decide why it is not for you! As for me, it is PATCHOULI FANTASTICO! OOHH LA LA :)

it is a great scent. a bit too much like the wood/coffee scent from the discontinued sweet series. I tried it on and loved it but why so much? way better in my opinion than the other luxe though.

Simply stunning. Like one reviewer mentioned (in Spanish), this is a fragrance that you smell, and never forget. It is rich, churning with mapley warmth and patchouli richness (if one gets to know this, the patch sort of envelops everything without being a star note... interesting!). I can't recommend this highly enough. But I have to say to the price... what?? I mean, I'd pay it because I love it and one has to take into account that this is produced in small batches, etc. But still... that's a lotta money for a little juice. Please AT LEAST try a sample!

Are you SERIOUS?? patchouli for this sick amount of $$$ heres my tip, from a person who knows the good stuff, Aveda Patchouli oil for under 20.00,its gotten me MORE compliments, than some of these 100-200$ perfumes, unless you just "like the way the black bottle looks..."

This dark scent opens so beautifully. My nose is brushing aside veils of woody smoke as I walk through. I get launched into a time so far back in prehistory where man and woman are still getting to know each other by sniffing. In the end I sit comfortably before a dying fire that wafts lazily around me as I drift off.

I think if it weren't so expensive people would be pretty enthusaistic about this concoction. It's tarry and licoricey and woody and sweet without being chocolatey, which is unusual for contemporary patchouli. Don't understand why anyone would pooh pooh the pyramid bottle, which is rad. A nice addition to the CdG line, but the price is absurd... it is only the slightest bit like sables, and far more wearable than that dangerous substance. for all of its richness it'd be wonderful if this stuff were only intensely strong, which it most certainly is not.

I like this, a patchouli for a not so patchouli-ish person, cause it gives me a chance to enjoy patchouli but not to be stuck with it all day! funny that at luckyscent if you were to buy samples only, you'd save money on this one!!

So I was reeaaallly excited for this one and much to my dismay, it did not deliver for me. A little too piney and sharp, a little bit old man and not a lot of patchouli at all. Not for patchouli lovers and definitely not at that price. I wanted to love it really bad, it just didn't happen.

I think it's a great scent. It's not the traditional "dirty" scent of Patchouli that you're used to smelling. It's much more elegant. The top notes are delicious; I can't get enough of them. However, as it dries it gets less interesting, reminding me of cheap cologne. And that's the part that lasts and lasts.

I'm a little shocked at the negative responses to this perfume -- to me, it's warm, smooth and richly layered, a little sweet, a little smoky. I barely used any and it lasted all day on me. I really like it. Yeah, it's expensive, I know.

How could anyone name this Patchouli and then, go even further and say it is Lux. It is neither. The most noteworthy note in this scent seems to be immotral flower, though I don't recall seeing it in the list of notes. There is nothing patchouly about this patchouli. It does last forever on the skin. That's not really a good thing. A huge disappointment and I could not recommend this to any serious fan of patchouly scents. The price is absurd. Bah!

Sequoia is my signature scent and there is none of that in this. i agree, this is revolting. there is a note, i don't know what it is, but the burning crusty smell is awful, i smell no patchouli at all.

Great brusque opening. Nothing like it. And then the heart of oak; sturdy; and again I know of no other oak scent. But all that beauty is ruined by the finish: burnt, harsh, revolting.

Im sorry-I just dont get it. I love exotic perfumes and I love almost all the CDG fragrances. I really didn't think there was a remote chance I wouldn't like this but I simply don't. I normally feel like even if a perfume isnt my thing I can appreciate that it is unique and well-made but I just can't believe Luckyscent is calling this one of the best ever. Just seems like a very bland burning hair smell. I do love the Champaca though.

Entre en una tienda y de repente aparecio este frasco ante mis ojos...Desde ese dia no pude dejar de pensar en su olor. Simplemente PERFECTO. De lo mejorcito que hay en el mercado actualmente.

An insane price point, to be sure. But this is like no other Patch I've ever tried. Rich, deep, complex and long lasting. A masterpiece? To be sure.

Love it love it love it... like a woody-grassy version of AG Sables. The woods are identifiably CdG... I detect a bit of Sequoia in there. Far too expensive though.

I enjoy this fragrance from much. It's deep, rich, and definitely not for the faint of heart. If you are looking for a "pretty" scent, this is not the fragrance for you. But if you are looking for a scent that is dark, dangerous, and robust, this one's got your name on it. The price is daunting, but a little goes a long way.

I put a tiny bit of this on, sniffed my wrist, and I got a face full of creme brulee/artificial cinnamon toast. It also gave my husband and I a headache. I tend to stay away from sweet scents because my body chemistry really amps up the sugar. What an unpleasant surprise! Patchouli? I missed it.

I'm sure they are right about the oak chips absolute though, extacted form wine barrels. This might even give it the edge over Sables.

I rather like this rich, burnt, creme-brulee note. It has already proven its worth with Annick Goutal's 'Sables', of which this is a close copy. I think Luckyscent may be barking up the wrong tree in talking so much about patchouli, presumably they have been misled by the name.

Thank God for Lucky Scent's samples! This perfume gave me a huge headache-it smells like insence and burning dirt. Comme des Garcons are FOOLISH for making such an outragiously expensive and putrid perfume.
