Parfums MDCI's latest release, Un Coeur en Mai, showcases the craft and the quality that have become the hallmark of this brand. Celebrated nose Patricia de Nicolai, a member of the Guerlain perfume dynasty, created it. We can't help but wonder if she was inspired by Guerlain's famous springtime perfume, Chamade, and in Un Coeur en Mai sought to create something equally iconic but definitively modern, with all the quality and complexity of a vintage perfume.
Coeur en Mai takes us on a scented journey characteristic of true art. It opens with the morning-like green of galbanum that calls to mind crushed stems and grass. This refreshing bouquet is coupled with hyacinth and a touch of citrus. Soon the crisp green gives way to an entrancing floral heart of newly-opened Bulgarian rose, black currant, and a hint of geranium. A whisper of coriander and melon both keep you guessing and add intimacy to the composition. Finally, a rich but light-handed layer of sandalwood, musk, and a sprinkling of pepper settle the fragrance. The development of this scent is a wonder to experience. If there were a Louvre for fragrances, Un Coeur en Mai would be in it.
