Nuit de Cellophane
Eau de Parfum
by Serge Lutens

The Scoop
Cellophane night? The name was meant to shock, says the enigmatic maestro of the Palais Royal -- though what it alludes to is simply the material used to wrap bouquets in flower shops.

At first sniff, you may think Serge Lutens has gone mainstream. Nuit de Cellophane is, undeniably, a fruity floral drowned in a cloud of fluffy musk. But smell more closely, and the little night music running through the Lutens opus will make itself heard: the stained-glass light of mandarin, warmed by the solar cinnamon roundness of myrrh, drowns the dusk-blooming, indolic jasmine in sunset hues. A slight mentholated whiff betrays a roving tuberose throwing her green flash.

Chinese osmanthus, with its juicy apricot sweetness and suede-like facets, is offset by the clove-y warmth of carnation and the milky lushness of almonds. A touch of lily adds smokiness to the blend, melding into the woody, creamy sandalwood base drowned in honey. A deceptively innocent, multi-textured fragrance whose carnal whispers will draw you into the luminescent sparkle of a cellophane night...

Nuit de Cellophane Notes

I adore this perfume. It is perfect! It smells light and pretty. A very soft clean floral! So happy I bought this and will buy this one again. It was everything I wanted and more. Just a beautiful scent.

I'm really confused by this one... I definitely agree that is smells like "Very Hollywood," but would venture to say that there is absolutely nothing noteworthy or exceptional about this flat, high-school smelling fragrance. If you like to smell like Victoria's Secret or the generic department-store fragrance, look no further. However, it is quite disappointing from SL that is known for very unique, distinct fragrances. 2 stars because it still smells decent, but definitely a let-down.

Definitely nice, but nothing I would ever buy. Not at all the type of fragrance I gravitate towards.

A full, brash, sharp floral fragrance. This is almost identical to Michael Kors' Very Hollywood. There are cheaper perfumes that smell similar to this.

This fragrance is easy to wear and smells really good. I don't think anyone could object to it. I fell the person who created it winking at a little joke because it definitely smells like flowers wrapped in cellophane.

On me, this smells like Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific, the shampoo all the cool girls used back when I was in seventh grade. Two stars for nostalgia, but I wouldn't wear it.

Very boring. It smells like a generic department store scent, nice and wearable, but just not something from dramatic and tasteful Lutens.

Subtle is rarely a word one can use when describing an SL fragrance, but in this case it's apt. As with all Serges, there is a dance of notes, with first one taking center stage and then another. But in NdC, it's more minuet than mash pit. On me, this scent opened with something very vegetal, as though I'd wandered into a kitchen where someone was chopping fresh garden produce. Then the florals came through, sweet and misty as though freshly picked in morning dew. A bass note of fruit sounded next as though to provide structure to the delicate blooms. If I were to choose a scent to accompany an Eduoard Manet still life, it might be this scent. Like Manet's work, this scent stands on the edge of impressionism.

Yawn. This is sooo boring. Many better things out there to try.

I like NdeC as well. It is not as forward as some of SL other fragrances, but it is floral, feminine and wears very nicely in the hot weather.

I was expecting to dislike this new Lutens because of the lack of support for its simplicity, airyness and wearability. Not everything has to take 30 minutes to morph into a scent you can love....I really enjoy Cellophane and find it FBW.

Wonderful scent. I get a lightly sweetened jasmine that is soft, smooth and clean. I detect zero soap/dryer sheet accord that people have mentioned. This ethereal scent will wear great in hot weather and not become overwhelming. If you want to like a jamine scent but can't, try this!

Nuit de Cellophane opens on a clean almost soapy note on me, after a while the green note merges and blends into a delicious honeyed fruity floral with a hint of musk This is an unusual Serge Lutens scents but I think for me, it will become one of my favorite summer scents.

I find this a refreshing change from the almost predictable joli -laid strangeness that has been so prevalent in niche fragrances. On my skin this scent opens with a sweet syrup fruity notes, with a heart of an almost narcotic jasmine. Osmanthus makes a cameo appearance and I detect nutmeg, also narcotic. If you MUST have 'odd' in your Serge , its there, in the form of the actual aroma of cellophane (plastic) wrapped around damp flowers. I wish the sillage was better, and that the osmanthus note would linger ,but if you are a fan of un lys you should like this too. it is more 'jour' than 'nuit', but that suits me just fine

This is a very soapy jasmine reminiscent of dryer sheets. Piercing and relentlessly dull, it is a huge disappointment coming from Serge Lutens.
