Nowadays, beautiful chypres are rare, endangered species. We can’t remember the last time when the fragrance that professed to be a chypre did not turn out to be a pale shadow of what is supposed to be a rich, elegant, deep composition. Corps et Ames is one of the very few recently released chypres that more than met our high expectations. Described as a celebration of the enigmatic immortelle flower and the mysterious and exotic Melati wood, this is a creamy, dense, refined composition, which feels like a throwback to the times when chypres were not afraid to be chypres and smelled oh so very chic. The resinous softness of the woods is spiced by the floral piquancy of geranium; the leather accord adds to the composition a certain austere elegance and a subtly animalic quality.
