Musc Maori
Eau de Parfum
by Parfumerie Generale

The Scoop
Mouth watering... Milky-smooth Cumaru wood is refreshed with green notes of coffee tree blossom presiding over a contrasting accord on a black and white theme; white musk and cocoa bean come together in an unexpected harmony. The sweet, powdery smoothness of the latter, echoed by vanilla-scented Amber and Tonka Bean, respond to the pure and soberly sensual effect of the former. Musc Maori is a delicious fragrance with oriental tones that develops an engaging, soft and enveloping trail. A mischievous, deceptively frivolous scent that permeates the skin to celebrate its full sensuality.

It sounds so lovely! Unfortunately it does not work with my chemistry at all, gives me nausea. Bubblegum and plastic is what I get, not as much as a hint of the coffee and chocolate others are getting. Would love to smell how it is supposed to smell like...

doesn't last so long either.

hmmm, this is so interesting to me. After reading all of the reviews I expected this perfume to be chocolate and cream but I still fail to smell even the slightest bit of chocolate. It opens on me with a strong and wonderful burst of expensive orange sorbet which last quite some time. I think this smells delicious btw. But no chocolate to be found. Then after a while the fresh creamsicle/ orange sorbet smell gets toned down a bit and a nice soft musc come through. This is how it stays straight through til dry down. Still not even a drop of chocolate on me though which I find so weird. I'm really liking this beautifully crafted perfume though. Could be full bottle worthy. Also try Tonkamande from the same line. Both are gorgeous.

Hmm, this starts out chocolate on me and stays chocolate all day. Did reapply around noon as it was fading. It's nice, I don't mind smelling like chocolate, and it's not chemical or nasty smelling, just very literal. I have dry skin though, maybe it would do something more interesting on someone warmer or oilier. I don't think it's something I'd buy a bottle of, but it's pleasant and a very successful chocolate scent.

Smells like melted butter to me, definitely not something I would wear.

Oh, I forgot to mention. This needs a lot of reapplying on me. It fades in two hours or so. So I give it 1 star for that but the overall composition makes it a 4.

Lots of chocolate in the opening. Dissapears after 15 minutes and your left with a soft cocoa floral. Dries down to a soft skin scent with a hint of clean musk. The musk note is not dominant. This is a gourmand, but I dont find it sweet at all. I guess this react very different from person to person. I'd label this as a soft skin gourmand. First PG I like by the way, it doesnt have the same ambery musty dry down as I get from all the others I've tried. Lombre fauve is brilliant but I wouldnt want to wear it myself, it's a bit too carnal for me. I might just end up with a bottle of this.

This was a full-bottle purchase after I'd sampled it. It is very sweet, but transparent and light, and the musky/cocoa drydown lasts and lasts. For me it's sort of in the same category as a comfortable, casual, foody vanilla scent like L'Artisan Vanilia or Nicolai Vanille Tonka, but the chocolate and the musk make it more interesting.

Back to say that this has fast become a fave of mine and my husbands! It is very sweet but very sexy, it never fails to get me compliments. I love the play on the black and white theme, when I spray it I imagine sweetened condensed milk being stirred into the most creamy milk chocolate on earth! YUM! Now, I just wish PG would come out with body products to match. Although I might never leave my bathroom;-)

although this seems to be a well-crafted gourmand, it is definitely not for me. there was too much chocolate, not enough musk. so much, in fact, that i got a migraine from it's strong presence. probably if i was more of a gourmand person i would have liked it more.

I was hoping to find the perfect creamy chocolate fragrance; something utterly gourmond, smelling of freshly baked hot gooey milk chocolate brownies. This was disappointing. I don't understand the great reviews. 10 minutes after I applied this to my wrist, all I got was some gross scent that was reminiscent of a dusty old rubber tire. Not yummy at all, just gross. For a fragrance this expensive, I would have expected better.

AMAZING! This is like all time fave. Thanks Luckyscent for introducing this scent to me! I cant live without this from now on. So striking even with the first sniff, such softness on the skin, it is the caress of the love of your life!

This is a delicious scent. Cocoa with musk smells perfect. I enjoyed every sniff until it lasted. Not long staying power and I dont mind spending on perfume but my rule is it has to last at least a couple of hours. I will pour the whole sample and try it again if Im wrong I will be back

I hate to be the curmudgeon at this lovefest, but Musc Maori smelled like a cafe mocha with a big shot of coconut syrup when I first applied it, and when it dried down, I smelled like I'd rubbed myself down with an Almond Joy candy bar. Just not my style, but probably a total winner for those who love foody, comforting scents.

The best of it's kind. Imagine Lea with more chocolate and a mild, fruity twist. I'm getting apricot. This stuff is delicious. Absolutely delicious.

Wow! I just got the sample today and this is just gorgeous. Very chocolately, but not overly sweet at all. And what a wonderful balance of choclate and white musk; neither overpowers the other. I can't see myself wearing this daily, nor does it feel like a good summer scent to me, but it's a keeper!

Oh, my goodness. I just kept saying that, all the way from opening the vial to application to several hours later when I was still sneaking off into corners to smell my own wrists. I have to admit - my favorite part of this perfume is the first five minutes, when the green notes are still in play on my skin. After that, it takes a good whonk of humidity to bring them back, but even so... the milk chocolate fragrance that remains is wonderful all on its own. Absolutely adore it.

Grown up cocoa ~it's lovely how the milk chocolate note sticks around from beginning to end, yet the fragrance itself is not syrupy sweet or childish in the least. The drydown reminds me slightly of peach potpourri (a stronger version of this can be found in L'Eau de Circe), but it blends in well and gives the scent better lasting power overall. This was definitely love at first sniff for me - I purchased a bottle the first day of sampling it!

Bought this without sampling (I did ask, but missed out), sure that I would adore it. I will agree with most of the ecstatic posters below... but for one thing. Am I the only one who gets a somewhat alarming "sappy" undertone, which only abates after a few hours? It's a sort of milky, poisonous sap, the sort that comes from mysterious plants in your garden, after touching which, your mother would order to wash your hands immediately and thoroughly. It's a strange dichotomy- the soft, delicious chocolate and tonka demand come-hither, but this odd "plantiness" demands you wear gloves while doing it! Maybe it's just me.

I really wanted to like this one more than I do, especially given all the rave reviews below. I love the deep, dark bitter cocoa and black coffee softened by vanilla and musk; however, the staying power on me is nil. After about two hours, it's gone. :-( Oh well, one less fragrance to bleed my bank account dry.

Oh my goodness... there is something truly special about this perfume! It smells unbelievable! I believe I have finally found my Holy Grail of perfume! It has a chocolate top note, but it starts to change into this almost sweet, nectar-esque fragrance with a slightly detectable woodsy note, which balances the scent out and makes it more adult, rather then a teenagers perfume. It is so divine and yummy! Truly a sexy yet sophistated perfume. This perfume will turn heads and it's a rare scent that many women will not have ever heard of so ladies if you purchase this, please do not give this scent out to anyone. It is wonderful!

Lucky Scent nailed this one in their description. Like Pilar and Lucy's EFOS, but better. I mean butter. Really sweet, creamy, fresh butter. Oh and some almost over-ripe orange blossoms, and a little of their green sap is in there, too. Heaven. *Sigh*

This is my favorite scent during these cold months. This is a sensual fragrance that doesn’t smell cheap or synthetic, and it doesn’t give me a headache. It smells like homemade milk chocolate chip cookies and hot rum on me. This is a grown-up scent and also has great lasting power. It doesn’t change drastically from the first spray to the drydown, unlike PG’s Aomassai. Oh, and I receive tons of compliments whenever I wear Musc Maori. I agree with the previous reviewer that there is something naughty about this fragrance.

the chocolate goes away instantly, but i'm left with this wonderful dulce de leche scent that smells *exactly* like the milk candy that I used to get in the Dominican Republic. This isn't my favorite but it's close, and my fiance loves it.

I bought this scent direct from France about 4 months ago, and boy am I glad luckyscent carries it now. I almost had to learn French to order it and the shipping took forever. But upon recieving it I was immediately smitten. Yes it's choco- musk-vanilla goodness but there is definitly something naughty and dirty about it. And that element is found in most of their scents. It doesn't scream come hither, it softly murmurs and demands it. My husband went ga-ga! If you want fantastic sillage this won't cut it. But if it's sexy, sensual comfort you're after order it, you won't be sorry!

Musc Maori is a beautiful chocolate-vanilla-white musk fragrance. It's one of the best chocolate scents I've tried, but unfortunately I'm just not a fan of such scents so this is not for me. Those who love sweet gourmand blends really should try this - this is far superior to Serendipitous and the 2 new chocolate scents currently available from Luckycent (from Il Profumum and Coppeneur).
