Osmanthus
Eau de toilette
by The Different Company

The Scoop
Osmanthus fragrans is a prized flower cultivated in China, rarely seen (in all its glory) as the main note in a perfume. Once harvested, it travels out into the fragrance world in porcelain containers in “concrčte” (paste) form, a costly and stunning prize scooped up by only the most elite perfumeries. The Different Company’s Osmanthus is a tribute to this beautiful little flower, which has a delicate fruity-floral aroma that reminds us of apricots and blossoms. Tangerine and bergamot give wings to the fruit, while leaf green and musk join the party to create a fragrance like no other. A subtle floral for all seasons, Osmanthus is remarkably original and undeniably feminine.

Goes on as a restrained and very, very, very soapy floral. Smells high quality but rather dull, takes a long, long time to reach the peachiness of the osmanthus (about 2 hours) and then is very short lived. 3 for vision, 1 for execution. Instead, anyone looking for a great Osmanthus should check out Hermes Osmanthe Yunnan (if you can put up with their sales people)!

roja dove gave this 5 stars, but i found this to be quite plain and uninteresting. i don't get it, and frankly, perfume should not have to be explained.

Shame on me for not getting a sample first. Very expensive mistake. This smells delicate and lovely, though not of Osmanthus at all. And the sillage lasts about as long as it takes you to spray it on and walk into the next room. Then, it vanishes -- and in this regard only does it truly resemble Osmanthus fragrans in its "there but then it's gone-ness" You are then left with only the most subtle non-specific floral fragrance that you can smell only if you place your nose against your wrist. The box has pictures of Jasmine, actually, instead of Osmanthus - that was my first clue. It does smell pretty, but not at this price and not if you really want Osmanthus.

Described as feminine by Luckyscent, I Ellena's Osmanthus is pretty uni. There's definitely a peachy floracy, but there's also a grassy, hay-like note that lends it a certain masculinity. I love all of the notes, but, like most of Ellena's more transparent offerings, staying power is pretty slight. Great summer fragrance, or also good as a little burst of sunshine, when needed, in the winter.

I really wanted to like this but there was absolutely no staying power on me what so ever.

A stunning composition, simple and minimalist in structure, but just beautiful! A lovely mix of abricots, flowers and musk, a little powdery, not too sweet and very very feminine. So solar and poetic. A pure masterpiece.

Really awful--no particular scent at all--the absolute bergamote was similarly nondescript--may just be my chemistry. Really wanted to like these...

It lasts well on me and I get compliments on it. It's fresh and wet, and has a note that's something like rain on hot pavement, or terra cotta clay, that I really like. A fruity floral that isn't Sweet 16 and has surprising depth.

I really wanted to like this one, but I have such a hard time even detecting it, it's hard to say if it's any good. It's very very soft, very bland -- hard to imagine it being offensive on anyone and likewise, hard to imagine it really suiting anyone. Definitely not worth $110.

Unspectacular. For a great osmanthus scent, try Janca by Acqua di Biella.

very light, floral. the middle notes are mainly green tea and rose. Not bad, nothing that really stands out.
