Red Ginger
Eau de Parfum
by Susanne Lang

The Scoop
Fresh and unexpected. This is a subtle and sophisticated fragrance that stays close to the skin, warming into a sweet, soft spiciness that teases the senses. The red ginger at the heart smolders like a glowing ember – welcoming and inviting-- with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and spicy carnation coaxing it into a steady flame. We love the unfussy, modern quality of this scent– even with its rich ingredients, it has an understated luxury that makes it so easy to wear. And there isn’t anything else out there like it. Captivating and unique.

Wasn't particularly fond of the top notes. Reminded me of black tea. The dry-down, however, was phenomenal. Amber, carnation and nutmeg about 30 minutes in. Evolved to a nice spicy rose scent 1 hr in. 3 hours later, I can still smell it faintly (average lasting time for EDPs on my skin).

This isn't the kind of perfume I usually like (I'm a vanilla freak), but I really like it. It smells much better on my skin than in the bottle. To me, it smells like a fragrant exotic tea.

OK, I really, really, really wanted to like this. I LOVE ginger, and it sounded like just what I wanted. Wasn't too crazy about the scent right when I put it on, but the drydown was excellent. Alas, it has absolutely no staying power -- I'm glad I only bought the sample. What a tremendous disappointment!

I was looking for a nice sweet and spicy scent, so when I read about Red Ginger in O I was intrigued. So then I found Lucky Scent and read the description and all the reviews and I was excited to try it. I'm glad I bought the sample first, because personally I think this scent is pretty awful. My initial reaction on opening the vial was "cheap". Now, I know that isn't a scent in and of itself, but after a few more sniffs I think the word cheap came to mind because I realized what Red Ginger reminds me of is a perfume you used to be able to find in dimestores (and perhaps still can) called Chantilly. Maybe with some baby powder mixed in. A very penetrating, sickly sweetness. But I wanted to be fair, so I put some Red Ginger on my wrists to see what would happen. I figured the way it smells in the bottle would be somewhat different than the way it smells on the body. After about an hour it wasn't as offensive as it started out, but it surely wasn't anything remarkable and it was still way too sweet- I didn't pick up too much spice. To me it was very candy-pink- like something a young teenage girl might wear; red is not the color that comes to mind when I smell Red Ginger and I can't imagine why a grown woman would want to smell this way. I will say it was very long lasting. I finally decided to wash it off when it started giving me a headache and it took some doing, believe me. I realize that perfumes can react differntly on every body, and it's hard to argue matters of taste anyway. What was it Abe Lincoln said? "For people who like that sort of thing, this is the sort of thing that they will like." Personally I thought Red Ginger had way too much sugar and not enough spice. I didn't like it and considering the headache it left me with I guess it didn't much like me either. For a spicy, sweet scent that was truly warm and sexy and much more sophisticated (at least in my opinion) I choose CDG "Spicy Cocoa".

I love this scent....ordered a sample and bought the bottle the next day. So warm and long lasting( on me ), but it also has a freshness that stays throughout the day. I find myself reaching for it on a daily basis. I've received many compliments from customers at work and strangers in a local department store. Even my 77 yr old mother loves it.

It smells great for five minutes. I wish it had more staying power. Too bad.

I love Red Ginger! It's awesome. It's heady and bright --- soft and enchanting. I think it smells like a Gypsy fortune tellers palor. Spicy (like paprika spicy), a little leathery and a lot of sweet balms. It's really sensually appealing and rich. As it dried down it got a little lighter and deeper in the ginger intensity. I can definitely smell the nutmeg and some floral in there as well. To me --- it's a keeper. I wish this came in a set with Warm Vanilla and Pashmina .. it would be an awesome set.

It would smell better, and last longer if it was more intense.

Smells like a gypsy carvan. Just spicy enough and patchouli enough without being heavy. IT's wonderful, warm and erotic.

LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!!! Wasn't expecting to like it but sampled it anyway as I was just curious. Glad I did! Just bought a bottle! I have also enjoyed layering it with some of my sweeter perfumes.

This is an interesting warm and spicy scent. I do prefer CdG's Guerrilla 2 though--it's in a similar style, but a bit "redder" and with a touch more zing.

I loved the combination of freshness and depth in this one. Of all the samples I got, this is by far my favorite. However, it doesn't have any lasting power on me. I applied it several times and the scent was gone within 30 minutes. If it were a perfume, I would buy it.

This one layers nicely with Black Orchid - the spice and the floral vanilla make a nice combo.
