Rhubarb
Eau de Toilette
by Comme des Garcons Series 5: Sherbet

The Scoop
Rhubarb is the tart one in the Sherbet series, perfectly capturing the sourness of a rhubarb stalk with a tiny dash of sweet. A beautifully fresh, green stem scent runs throughout the evolution, and it dries down to a creamier version--like an icy rhubarb sorbet mixed with a non-sweet (or overtly feminine) vanilla. We pick up a bit of wood (wenge) in there, too. Completely unique and unisex (go on, show us someone you know who wears a rhubarb scent), the tart green of Rhubarb is a study in converting taste into an exhilarating and crisp bottled scent. Extremely addictive, you just may drool a little when you smell this.
Rhubarb Notes
bergamot, rhubarb, litchee (aka lychee), orchid sap, cognassier flower, vanilla cream, wenge

Oh yes, this has a slight celery/rhubarb scent to me - it's even just a tad earthy. Then this becomes sweet, perhaps like a rhubarb pie, but not terribly cloying. I prefer using it in warmer weather. I like it, but it's not a love story.

Delish! Great pick-me up scent of rhubarb and creamy vanilla with a slight citrus edge. Not too sweet, not too sharp, not too foody if that makes sense. This somehow works. Hey, at under $50, you really couldn't do any better :)

Just recieved a sample of this one, it kind of for reminded me of Eau de Cartier, but greener. Nothing special and little masculine.

The lasting power is unfortunately 3 hours, the fragrance is beautiful, fresh, a little bit sour, not too sweet, but very summery.

I'm a rhubarb fan, so I had to try the sample when I discovered it last year. I waited patiently for warm weather to roll around and have just purchased the bottle. At first spritz, the fragrance is very peppery to me. This dissipates quickly and leaves behind a tart, green scent that's sharp without being citrus-like. After 15-30 minutes, it evolves into something softer that's only slightly sweet and balanced by the faintest hint of creaminess--it could be called vanilla, but if others hadn't said vanilla, I wouldn't have--and woody notes. It's a very clean fragrance without a lot of depth, which is just right for summer.

I don't usually like fruity smells but that one is different, as most perfumes from CDG, you like the style or you don't. Nothing common, always original and very subtle and refine. That one is as fresh as it's warm, I agree, it's contradictory..just imagine a fresh stem of rhubarb with a dash of vanilla..yummy

lovely, quirky, and fresh. for those of you who think its too "masculine" is smells lovely layered with vanilla.

I just had to try this fragrance out of pure curiosity. The previous reviews are such a mixed bag. Certainly it is not at all unpleasant. I find it to be very green and refreshing, albeit a bit overwhelming. If you are looking for a fragrance that spells pure GREEN--in capital letters--then this is it.

So many rhubarb notes smell so unlike rhubarb it makes me sad. This one, however, smells just like a fresh, green stick of rhubarb. It's sour and fresh and green smelling and I kind of want to eat my arm with it on.

I love this - normally I hate fruit-scented perfumes (too sickly) but this is exceptional - fresh, dry, with the smell of a freshly-snapped stick of unsweeetened rhubarb, and a light almost incensey scent in the drydown. Not a hint of sweetness - very refreshing!

This smells like weeds that I just pulled from the yard! I wish that I had tried the sample, but the reviews were so great I bought the whole bottle. I don't smell anythign sweet or like rubarb in this. It is just awful.

The first time I tried this I thought it was too way out there. But the second time I really like the juxtaposition of tart and sweetness. It is really delicious and very unusual. I really like this one a lot.

Like the initial smell. Well, I like the tartness. I had Cinnamon and this reminds me of it in that way that it smells absolutely nothing like what you would want or expect it to. But not necessarily bad, it's very clean. But then yeah, it turns into this really vague sort of what the hell who where what is that on me. On the right person this would be great. A little too unisex for me, much like Cinnamon. There is nothing sweet about the sherbet series from what I can tell. They're all very fresh and kind of on the cool side.

I personally find this scent truly repulsive, i found it sickly sweet with a bit of hard to swallw cough syrup

My one true love. I'm almost hesitant to say how awesome this is because I don't want it to sell out - ever. I've bought two bottles so far, used one up completely over the course of a year, and will cry and cry if it ever stops being available. I'm considering buying a stockpile, but there are so many other CdG scents I'd like to try, and only so much cash I can justify spending on smelling delicious.

I could be sitting in front of ripe juicy strawberries and would still want to drink this instead- its that refreshing. Porbably though of as a summer scent, but I wore this in midwinter and turned a few heads with a reminder of sunny days.

I love rhubarb pie, I even love that super plant-y twinge about fresh rhubarb that makes you wrinkle your nose, and though I longed for the rhubard scent to work for me on the skin, alas, it did not. I guess I'll be sticking to fig as my main fruity-foody scent.

I really like unusual scents for colognes. This is really nice for a girl or woman but I don't think it works for a man. I am finishing it just because I got it as a girft and then I am going back to the incense or leaves line. But would love it on a girl!!!

Lovely! A fresh rhubarb stalk deepened by the other scents so that it seems almost four-dimensional. Doesn't smell like food -- it smells like summer! An all-time favorite.

Exactly what I hoped for! Wonderful juicy tangy fresh rhubarb! Now I have to obssessively hunt down other perfumes with rhubarb notes....

This is such an original and beautiful scent. I can't detect anything masculine about it except that it isn't sucrose sweet. Top 5 of my favorite perfumes of all time!

After further review, I've changed my opinion on this one. I was so caught up in the unusualness of this scent, that I didn't pay attention to what it really smelled like. It is over the top masculine! Men say they like it on me, and it's probably because it's something they would like to own. One comment said chapstick like, and I thought for sure this scent would be soft. Just the opposite, it's sharp and very green. Almost like an unrippened fruit. Try before you buy- I should have!

Didn't like it at first sniff, but then the dry down... So lovely, so unusual. Just enough sweetness formy taste, and yes, very addictive.

Well...I REALLY wanted this to be rhubarb --- and it was, temporarily, but the drydown is nothing but bergamot and green WOOD!! I wish the CDG concept of "unisex" was really impartial, but this shows it is not...still would love to smell this on a MAN!!!

Ahhh! Rhubarb. It's not green, floral, or sweet. It's brilliant! Finally a wearable everyday fragrance that just smells good. It's fresh and interesting, completely unique. I love it!

I love rhubarb. In pie, that is. My mom used to grow it in our yard, and this smells fresh out of the garden. It's too bad that no one washed off the dirt, because the perfume smells like it too. Was hoping for a sweeter smell...oh well!

When it comes to fragrance, I'm all about smelling tropical, flowery and sweet and steer clear of ANYTHING that is described as green. I never understood why figs, teas, leaves and definitely rhubarb belong in womens perfume. I tried this at a good friends house because she forced me to and my attitude toward "green" scents has been 100% wrong. This stuff is absolutely incredible. So so unique, you'll never smell anything like it, and I mean that in a good way. Who knew sweet and green could co-exist in perfect harmony! The next day my girly pink smells seemed so boring, like they were missing that offbeat loveliness only this scent can deliver. I asked my friend where she got it, she said Luckyscent, and for $34, purchased it with a smile. Buy it buy it buy it!!!!!!!

This reminded me so much of a old french eau d' toilette called Mure Musc... black currents/blackberries... was very enamoured of it years ago, but in a different space right now.

CdG are brilliant perfumers. Am addicted to many of their scents. Wore this one all summer. Everyone loved it. A male friend tried it and said it reminded him of the rhubarb in his garden. Kind of tangy- juicyfruit at the start, mellowing out to a sexy, not sweet but fruity vanilla/musk. Always smelled refreshing. Great for the summer.

This is one stunning and surprising fragrance. It starts out rather green, but then dries down to a beautiful, softly sweet and creamy scent. Terrific!

The description is right on here. This is a really tasty green ruhbarb scent. The dry down is mellower, but i still find it pretty masculine. but i sometimes wear mens' cologne (dolce & gabanna pour homme, happy, aqua di gio) and so this is a really nice option!

This is so yummy! People at the office couldn't figure out where the scent was coming from, "It smells like jam and vanilla chapstick!" Sweet and tangy but not overwhelmingly so.

green. very green. if you are looking for rhubarb, this is your pick. however, not a whiff of vanilla, bergamot, or anything else. just smelled like single-note rhubarb.

OK, I wasn't sure about this fragrance on me. (I never smelled any vanilla) But, on my husband it turned out to be incredibly sexy, one of the best scents he has ever worn, very green and almost citrusy, but still warm...

This is really nice, it's just like the description, a little sour and tangy when you first put it on, then it dries down to a nice and mellow vanilla scent. It's really unusual and nobody else will have it. Comme des Garcons are really awesome with the art of fragrance, and this is the best one in their sherbet line.
