Harissa is based on the famous fiery Moroccan spice of the same name. We're going to tell you this right upfront: if you love blood oranges but are bored by the same ol' one-dimensional citrus scents, this one will send you into fits of extreme joy. Harissa starts off as a hot, spiced tomato that lays heavy on the orange. Its searing heat almost convinced us that it was actually hot when we applied (must've been our imagination). The spice and fruit combo eventually mellows and gives way to a ripe blood orange tempered by the anise-like herb of angelica. If you like Tabasco in your Bloody Mary, Harissa will get your blood boiling in happiness. |
