Luctor et Emergo - Eau de Toilette
Eau de Toilette
by People of the Labyrinths

The Scoop
Once in a great while a fragrance comes along that sets the perfume world on fire.

World, meet Luctor et Emergo.

Topping the list of Style.com's #1 cult fragrances, this complex and haunting perfume goes far beyond the expectations of those lucky enough to try it. Startlingly unique and presented in a laboratory flask-shaped bottle and packaged in a red velveteen box, Luctor et Emergo is like nothing you've ever smelled before. A blend of sweet and resinous incense, soft vanilla, woods and a whiff of transparent cherry in the beginning, we also smell almonds in the mix, creating a delicious mixture of cherried marzipan offset by very dry wood and otherworldly incense that lasts for hours.
Luctor et Emergo - Eau de Toilette Notes
precious woods, vanilla, fresh grasses, white florals (and dozens of prized ingredients we can't name!)
Note: Due to the delicate glass bottle, extra air space is used to prevent cracking during air transport.

First tried this back in March & "cherry playdoh" was totally apt. Tried it again now that the weather is warmer & it's better. But still not great. Not bad, but not great. I don't know what to think about this one at all.

I actually bought the perfume version of this last year, and I was really disappointed to find that the smokiness of the perfume made me smell kind of "musty" after a while. This is particularly the case because I live somewhere cold and therefore have to layer my clothes -- which can cause my perfume to get heated up throughout the day. In my experience, most of the lovely cherry-hay scent became overshadowed by the musty-smoke scent by the time two hours has passed. All of this is to say that I much prefer the toilette version, which, yes, is somewhat lighter and less resinous upon initial application, but which retains its loveliness in a way that the perfume (and the lotion) does not. It does not last as long as the perfume, but I don't at all mind reapplying throughout the day. My husband loves this scent -- and this the same guy who wrinkled his nose at the perfume version.

EWWW....Cherry Scented Eau de Play-Doh! Way over priced to smell like kids clay. Cherry starts off strong and with in minutes the plastic smell starts to kick in.Does not last long on the skin overall.Save your money on this one and pass it by.

To start, Im getting cherry cough syrupy type whiffs, kind of strong. Not very appealing. Within minutes something that smells to me of cinnamon comes through the cherry and its actually a nice combo! I have to admit Im probably being more generous with my praise for this because of all the hype that surroundes it - its really hard to ignore! If this was a cheap drugstore perfume that someone gave me Id probably throw it at them! I get the FAINTEST whiff of playdoh and I mean faint, only when I inhale deeply. WEIRD! My husband ran away from me while I was wearing this.

I have never liked gourmand fragrances. I like vanillas, but they have to be subtle and not too sweet, so you can say that I was a bit hostile against putting this on. I have been wearing it for two days now and this is probably the most comforting scent I've ever worn. It's calming almost serene. A true skin scent. Perhaps THE ONE. it stays close to you like a soft but complex whisper. The top notes on me are grass a bit of smoke and some sort of spicy wood. This only lasts for about 10 minutes. When it sinks in it leaves a milky soft smell of almonds, smoky vanilla, shy cherries and wood. I cant say I would put this in the category of gourmands, to me it's a skin scent with a twist. It's potent and lasts and lasts never to take over it's wearer. I think I'm addicted. I actually cant stop smelling myself!

Oh, sweet mystery of life, at last I've found you. Ok, look, I was totally prepared to hate this scent just based on how much other people love it. But alas--while I can vaguely see why other people scream "Play-doh" at the scent, I am utterly in love. Vanilla cherry tobacco is exactly what I smell--an expensive, smooth pipe tobacco, still in its wooden box. It is a musty, woody, sweet, earthy scent that give way to the faintest smell of powder. I scrolled to the bottom of the page and saw the "if you like this, you'll also like Mazzolari's Alessandro" and that's dead on the money. I really like Alessandro but it's too innocent and fresh for me. POTL is Alessandro grown up and smokey. I am tempted to shell out the bucks for the parfum version of this--that's how taken I am with it. I could not be happier with this ever-so-hyped scent. I'm really glad I tried this.

Very odd scent. I get the play-doh which is what I find particularly strange. I also get the cherry and tobacco which remind me of the black cherry flavored cigarillos. This might make an interesting scented candle but not something I'd wear on my skin.

Eau de Play-Doh! I can't imagine anyone under 6 wanting to parade about smelling like this. Sorry ... I even tried it twice. This concoction doesn't even deserve the 1 asterisk rating -- there wasn't an option for "0."

Like the EDP better. The EDT does have a very slight play doh note which disappears almost immediately after putting it on. The EDP lasts longer with no play-doh. Lovely unique scent. I really have not smelled anything like this.

I'm wearing it now - it is the polar opposite of floral, fresh, sweet, all those types...it is wonderful and I wear it just for me. At first spritz, it does put me in mind of a Smith Brothers cherry cough drop, but after that, it becomes mesmerizing.

"prized ingredients we can't name" whatever they may be, the highest component seems to be whatever gives play doh it's scent. this stuff smells exactly like play doh! a nice smell, perhaps, when playing with play doh at age 5, but not to take away with you

yeah..."not great" is an understatement. i have no idea how this is suppose to smell. the description is kind of cool sounding...but the EDT makes me think of an older fragrance that an older woman might wear...i mean like 60. no offense to anyone who may like it or may be 60. and i can't even pick out anything but maybe a little vanilla....which is the only good thing. and it's tres cher price tag is jaw dropping for what you get to smell like. i'm sure it's just my chemistry...but on me it is not a comforting smell. more like nauseating. sorry.
