The exact friction of stars
Eau de Parfum
by Pilar and Lucy

The Scoop
Incredibly yummy. Imagine lounging on satin sheets, being fed ice cream, licking whipped cream off of your fingers as you watch the sun set over the ocean. All of this with a very special and devilishly attractive someone, of course. A warm and luscious vanilla-based scent -- as rich as creme brulee, as craving-inducing as coconut cream pie. Delicious and so, so sexy. Indulge yourself.

I have tried this fragrance a couple of times a year for at least the last 7 years. I really want to enjoy a fragrance called The Exact Friction of Stars. I adore "Tiptoeing" by Pilar & Lucy, but I have the same problem with "Friction" that I have with "Twirl": for some reason my skin brings out notes that smell overwhelmingly like a blend of vegetable cooking oil and paraffin wax. I get mere hints of what the fragrance could create. I know it's not the formulation; it's me. Frustrating. I must admit I'm awfully attracted to the bottles in the Pilar & Lucy line, but I noticed "Friction" isn't nearly as Burlesque as she used to be. What a shame. I guess this makes my inability to befriend her easier to tolerate.

This scent kinda grew on me. At first whiff I get orange blossoms and honey, the dry down has a musky subtle creamy scent to it and keeps reminding me of Egyptian Musk which I used to wear in 7th grade so it brings good memories to my Ol' factory nerves. It smells oil based not alcoholly at all. If you work in a field where you cant have a strong strong perfume this is a good choice. Sweet and sublte with a musky swirl of orange blossom and honey a very polite scent, it doesnt seem like you get too much per bottle though. I took caution and ordered the sample first. Maybe in time I will purchase the FB. Perhaps.

I love it in all its simplicity. I love that it's not trying to be complex and mysterious. I started with a sample then purchased the bottle. It's a true vanille scent with more depth than the cheap, boring ones at the mall. Every time I wear this fragrance, at least one person will ask me what I'm wearing.

All coconut oil on me. If you like that suntan-oil, coconut-drink beachy smell, you should love this one. I, on the other hand, bought a whole bottle and now am looking for someone to give it to. Not my thing, though I can see where some would love it.

Nice but very very similar to Demeter's Angel Food Cake. Or like a lighter version of Comptoir Sud Pacifique's Vanilla Coconut but without the staying power. Old bottle tacky. Haven't seen new one. Like it but not special.

I think this is a nice vanilla scent. Very girly and sweet. I get a french vanilla note and also a creamier vanilla with a touch of fruit in there too. The only bad thing is that it doesn't last very long on me. It fades within an hour or so. I wouldn't buy a full bottle for that reason, oh and in my opinion there are nicer, more complex vanilla perfumes out there that appeal much more to me than this one. But it's a "happy mood" scent. That's why I adore buying samples to test out a perfume before having to commit. Lucky scent is the best!!!!!

This scent was a gourmand's dream come true, but it was more glamorous and elegant than a simple food-scented fragrance. The citrus notes soar, bringing a sophisticated glamor to the fragrance with uplifting clarity. A note though, I would describe this as a white-chocolate dipped orangette or a dark-chocolate dipped Valentine strawberry. I loved it, but my boyfriend preferred something a bit more mysterious.

Tried this a few years ago. Maybe it was the heat and humidity (summer in the Hamptons) but the scent smelled musty and artificial - too bad.

I actually had to try this several times. At first I was unsure of what to think - I did pick up on the coconut first but it wasn't something that I thought I would purchase. The longer it was on my skin - the more addicted I became. A few more tries and I began to notice other notes emerging. First the coconut moving into chocolate marshmallow caramel vanilla goodness...but with something extra and I just cannot figure it out - is it the orange or something else. It has a boozy appeal to it (in a good way). I tried the matching lotion and it is a lighter (in scent) rendition and somewhat creamier (as opposed to boozy). The lotion makes my skin very soft. I would not expect it to make the perfume last longer though as the scent is very light in the lotion but while it is on I do enjoy it (especially before bed). The perfume lasts a decent amount of time...but not as long as others have mentioned that it lasts on them. (unless I am just numb to it since I am wearing it a lot). I would love to try the oil. (I MUST like this a lot since I seem to have written a book about it!) giggle

This was just bad. It smelled like a little girl's toybox full of babydolls with a rotting dessert hidden underneath it all. Something just wasn't right about the vanilla smell. It really turned my stomach. It was just very fake and immature smelling. I could easily see a tween girl really liking this while pretending to be a fairy princess. Yuk! ;P

i bought this unsniffed convinced i would love it based on the delicious sounding notes. I was excited the first time i wore it but once i wore it again a few times and the excitement wore off, I realised that this is a very subjective scent in that some ppl get a beautiful creamy vanilla and some ppl get a plasticky vanilla. For me it was somewhere in betwem and so i have given it away, becaus there are so many drop dead vanillas out there i dont have to settle for second best!

Smells identical to Bath and Body Works Creamy Coconut. I did not get any vanilla from this what so ever, more coconut car air-freshener scent. Washed it off immediately, so I can not comment on the dry down.

For my nose, this fragrance is lovely! It is edible, creamy and sweet, smelling exactly like Baileys liquer, which I like so much. I detect no plastic notes, no suntan lotions or whatever. On my skin it is a creamy-chocolaty-coconutsy miracle!

This smells exactly like a dark chocolate Bounty bar that's been hanging around just a little too long! Sickly, plasticy, musty, that's about it. Not at all sexy, & I must agree that new bottle looks terrible, where's the glamour gone? Yuck, had to give my sample away, this isn't up to the standard of their other scents.

Boy, from the comments here this is definitly a love it or hate it scent. This was one of my very first purchases from this site about 5 years ago and believe me from then until now I have smelled just about every fragrance out there and I always come back to this. It is tragically sweet so if you don't like sweet, forget it. But it never fails to just be an incredibly yummy beachy scent that drives men wild. For Florida, where I live it just works perfectly. I have never recieved so compliments with a scent or been so panicky when I reach the last few drops of the bottle. I'm about to buy my 5th bottle! My only complaint with this frag is that I wish they would sell it in a much bigger bottle!! As always, try before you buy.

I fully expected to love this, as I usually crave any and all vanilla and 'foody' fragrances. I was so sad to find that this smelled of very cheap, chemical-laden suntan lotion on my skin. A loud, persistant plastic note SCREAMED right up top, and lingered well into the drydown. Maybe it just does not agree with my personal chemistry, as it sounds like everything I should adore. I'm just not feeling this at all. Sadness. I'll give it another go when the weather warms up.

I do NOT like gourmand or foody scents, however this is the one and only that I have ever tried and liked! It is not cheap candy, nor is it the sickly fake fruit scent. It is cream soda. A fine fizz, effervescent still on the dry down that is delicious. I won't wear this every day as I hate to give off the impression that I walk around smelling edible all the time, however indulgence here and there must be had with this.

When first sprayed, I smelled tequila and lime. It made me nauseous, the way the aroma of hard alcohol makes you feel after a few drinks too many. After a while the vanilla comes out but doesn't stick around very long. Before the scent faded I smelled tequila, plastic (?), and smoke/something burning. Weird. I may try my sample again just in case the lotion I was wearing earlier made the scent smell "off" though I have a feeling it just doesn't mix well with my chemistry. Very disappointing. I really wanted to love this fragrance because the description sounded so delicious, the name is pretty, and the packaging is so fun. =(

LOVE IT!!! absolutely my number 1 scent. I have never gotten as many compliments as when I wear this scent. definitely smells like a coconutty/vanilla tobacco on me, but not overpowering. I will turn and get a slight whiff just to remind me its there. And it gives me this warm feeling. give it a couple of tries before you sum it up as too sweet. definitely gets better as the day goes on.

I loved my sample but when I first sprayed it from the bottle, I got an immediate headache and thought it smelled like vanilla and burning plastic. It did dry down and I smelled so yummy later I got compliments, but that first little while was torture. I think I may have sprayed too much and I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. I also spray on my hair and clothes (I have very sensitive skin) so I'm not sure it's my chemistry that made it smell like burnt plastic. I will try a bit on my wrist and see what happens. :)

Yummy. This is one sex-ay scent. I sampled this with the outrageously expensive Tihota, and this is everything Tihota isn't...sweet AND complex, sophisticated for a foody scent. Yes it can be done, and Pilar and Lucy have found out how! The options of oil, bath get and body lotion are just the icing on this vanilla, coconut, caramel and scrumptious cake!!

This scent took me a little while to warm up to, sort of the way the fragrance works on my skin. I've had several samples and I continue to be drawn back to it until today. Now, I absolutely have to have a full bottle of it immediately! My suggestion is to pick up 2 samples because if you love vanilla and if you love Lucky's description of it, you're going to want to bathe in it! It has excellent sillage and it warms down to a lovely soft scent. I'm still sniffing my wrist hours later. I'd also suggest this to Monyette Paris devotees! Pilar & Lucy does it again!

Meh. It reminds me of sunscreen. I do see the comparisons to Lea -- the drydown is similarly powdery on me -- but I love Lea (just ordered a big bottle) and I don't care for this one. I guess I just don't like coconut that much. It's not unpleasant, and it doesn't turn plasticky on me like many coconut scents do -- it's just underwhelming. Too bad, the bottle is adorable.

It's true that when you first spray it on it's a little intense to breathe in. So I think I will eventually buy the roll-on oil and see if that lasts as long. However, once it dries down it's delicious and I get lots of compliments. On me the vanilla, coconut, and orange are the notes that are the most prominent, which is good, because those are the ones I like the most. I have not had the waxy note that others mention - it must be one person's body chemistry versus another.

This goes to show scent is such a personal thing. I love vanilla, gourmand scents etc and based on the description and all the postings, thought that this was it! I've tried this several times and just don't get it. To me, it's extremely cloying and cheap. Makes me think of Britney Spears. Someone said wax candle, which sounds like an apt description. I can think of multiple vanilla type scents at Bath and Bodyworks, drugstores, Comptoir brand etc that are so much better. But again, that's what makes scents so personal.

When I tried out my sample for the first time, I thought "Whoa, this stuff doesn't f--- around with sexy!" It hit me with an explosion of chocolate and orange in the beginning, then melted to a smooth, creamy, vanilla/coconut. The drydown is less sweet and a little beachy -- I definitely picked up the suntan oil scent that others did. So I was going along all day feeling like a sexy beach babe... then I got home that night and when I kissed my husband hello he said to me, "You smell like a candle." Boo! Oh well. No full bottle for me, but I'll buy samples from time to time to get my fix.

Absolutely gorgeous. At first, this is a beautiful, rich vanilla with just enough orange to keep it sharp...and then it dries into something sweeter [I did smell the candle wax here, but it was short-lived] Then after about an hour thisis an absolutely delicious soapy, clean, cherry vanilla with a touch of chocolate and whipped cream. Amazing, and I'm not even a vanilla fan.

Hmm...I ordered a sample of this in the hopes that it would become my new signature fragrance. I think that I must have been seduced by the cosmic name. However, as soon as I put it on, I began to smell like a vanilla candle from the drug store. It's definitely a sweet, vanilla scent, but there's the unmistakable aroma of candle wax mixed in. The fragrance is a little too young, like a little girl dipping into candle wax. It's just not for me.

I have even noticed that all the good comments were left in the winter and the bad comments are being made now, in the summer. So keep this around and try it when it gets cool, you will love it. Also keep in mind that after it drys and soaks in to your chemistry is the time to judge it.

I LOVE the different layers of this fragrance, just when you think you've arrived at the base notes...yet another special surprise! Intially, it reminds me of a fresh Italian cream cake that was just frosted with whipped buttercream frosting and topped with toasted coconut. I get a ~slight~ whiff of almond and cherry that fade quickly. The scent then transforms into a warm rich vanilla with a ~hint~ of...pipe tobacco!? Did anyone else note this? It reminds me SO much of the wonderfully scented rich vanilla tobacco that my dad would buy when I was younger. I think it adds to the richness and intrigue of the vanilla. Definately FBW...divine!

I'd have to say that I am a true vanilla lover. But often the fragrances that I would purchase would have something wrong with it..too foody, too musky..but this is IT. It's perfect. When you first spray it on you smell a dominating orange vanilla (which I dislike) but one it infuses with your skin and you wait for a few minutes, the rich vanilla scent intensifies, the orangey-ness fades away and you're left with a beautifully seductive, rich enveloping, almost intoxicating vanilla! It's truly marvelous. It's even better if you mix it with the Jalaine Vanille. Love love love!

I like vanilla on others - but hoped to fall under the spell everyone speaks of wirh this one. I definitely got the choco/orange top notes, which quickly mellowed to amber. If you like this, try Miss Natasha (EBBA)

Ben & Jerry's has an ice cream flavor called---well, the name escapes me right now, but it's obviously supposed to be based on Almond Joys. It's vanilla-coconut ice cream with almonds and chocolate chunks, and this smells EXACTLY like that ice cream tastes...which is a long way of saying this is amazing.

Picture Fresh Lucia mixed with Monyette and you have "The Exact Friction of Stars." I'd probably like it alot more if the foody notes were more evolved and elegant versus a Terry's Chocolate Orange.

This scent is SOOOO tasty, so luscious and sexy on me. I love it! I don't smell much vanilla when I wear it--instead, it reminds me of those chocolate orange balls you bang on the table, but made into something with a lot more sex appeal. LOVE this!

This scent is truly delicious. It starts out vanilla and orange, super-sweet, almost like candy. Then it mellows into warm vanilla with a hint of cocoa. It's one of those "I can't stop smelling my wrists" perfumes. I wouldn't call this a crazy, sexy scent- it's more of a sweet, warm and inviting feel. The scent was never cloying, and it lasted all day. Beautiful.

Toasted, Buttery coconut on a bed of french vanilla, topped with dribbling caramel... Totally edible.. I can't stop sniffing myself.. This fragrance reminds me of my beloved CSP Vanille, only less sweet.

WOW! I found this scent through my best friend. We would each spray this before walking through the bars. Every guy that we walked past could not help but stop and try to figure out if it was chocolate or vanilla!

At first whiff, very similar to Comptoir Sud Pacifique's Amour de Cacao. I'm one of the few people this did not smell good on. It has a yummy vanilla base, but the body of the fragrance smelled like tanning oil gone bad on me.

I don't know what happened with this fragrance. It smelled great in the bottle and great for the first 5 minutes but then it turned on me and I smelled like diesle fuel. So definitely get a sample to make sure it doesn't turn on you. I am so disappointed because I loved it in the bottle.

The first night I wore this fragrance out my favorite bartender leaned in for a quick kiss on the cheek & responded "Damn , girl you smell so good tonight!" Guys LOVE it. However I have had people say it smells like coconut or suntan lotion. It doesn't give me a headache like most fragrances. Its well describe

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this fragrance! I have A LOT of vanilla fragrances (many from this website.) I LOVE them all! However, this is my boyfriend's all time favorite fragrance on me. (Keep in mind that I have Lea St. Barth, Lea St. Barth "Extreme"_his 2nd favorite scent on me_ and Maison De La Vanille Fleurie de Tahiti.) However, I HATE that this scent comes in such a tiny bottle! What a bummer, since I REALLY LOVE this fragrance! :( Luckyscent, I BEG YOU, PLEEEEASE start carrying this fragrance in a larger size!!! I'm sure that I am not alone in dreaming of the day in which you do!

Luscious and delicious. The top note in this is sugar cane and it does smell like coconut cream pie and creme brule. If you like vanilla or foody sweet scents, give this one whirl. You won't be disappointed. How can you be? It's addictive.

There is something a little sharp in the top notes of this fragrance, almost aromatic or minty. At first you smell almost like a York Peppermint Pattie. But I really like the dry-down. It's a very feminine, almost angel food like scent. I smell the vanilla but there are other components I can't quite place. A little goes a long way, and it lasts all day.

Well, I can imagine how it would work for others, but on me, the scent stayed sharp and thin - vanilla, definitely, but with a sharp twist to it . My immediate impression was "Barbie," as in if Mattel still made that big Barbie head for you to apply makeup to, fix her hair, etc., and they updated the fragrances to include a vanilla one. It would smell like this does to me. This inspired a wrinkled nose from my dear husband, who usually just likes almost everything...

To anyone who hasn't yet tried this - you are truly missing out on one of the best frangrances in years. It's actually a serious contender for my favorite (a spot currently held by Lea St. Barth). Beware the company you keep when wearing this - men want to nuzzle with serious intent! To my friends and family: consider this a formal plea as the perfect gift for any occasion...

I was shocked by how unusual this scent was upon first application. It reminded me of the way the coconut tropical lifesavers tasted. The scent then morphs into a creamy caramely scent (far different than the tropical fruity/coconut initial blast). It's such an unusual and delightful scent that I purchased this as a gift for a friend who only wore one C.S.P. scent for years. When her signature scent was recently reformulated, I wanted to search for an alternate scent for her that was both delicious and unusual. This was it!!!
