I ordered a sample as part of my "perfect absinthe scent" search, so it didn't really fulfil the ballot there... However, it is a very elegant, and oddly satisfying perfume (while it lasts). On the opening I'm picking up bitter-sweet liquorice (anise) rather than absinthe per se. Absinthe, as far as I know, is not quite the same as anise, though they are the same family. I was expecting a more herbal, colder beginning. The bitter of the anise lingers, and turns into a more powdery, musky concoction pretty quickly. Overall, it's a warm, spicy scent. Vanilla-y drydown, but without excess sweetness. It sits well on me, but burns out quickly, and seems to have a high percentage of alcohol. Very little lasting power, which is really rather a shame...

Wow, I'm surprised woods are not listed in the notes. I get a definite aloes wood or some other exotic wood in the dry down. I love the powdery smell without any hint baby powder. There is a slight bitter-sweetness in the beginning, but thankfully it doesn't last long. This is a scent that is hard to put into words, but is quite beautiful. My only complaint is that it does not last very long. I've had many complements on it.

I am surprised, actually, by how much i like this. I am a bit of a hippie at heart and generally prefer scents that are very natural, earthy and subtle, wearing very close to the skin. This is definitely a "perfume." Nobody is going to think you naturally smell like this. But, its just delicious! It dries down into this sexy, soft, round intoxicating thing... It is definitely glamourous and a little bit naughty...It makes me feel like putting on expensive red lipstick and high heeled boots and dancing at some dirty dive bar until i'm sweaty and exhausted and my mascara is smeared.

Ok, so, yes, Paname does smells similar to SL's Douce Amere, however, I wouldn't substitute one to another. I like both and own both. Paname is a bit dryer and a bit more woodsy and smoky at its dry down, at the same time has a bit more spices at the end. and Douce Amere has more vanilla to my nose and smells a bit sweeter at the end. They both share a very similar opening and middle note maybe. But dry down s are quite distinguish. I would say if you enjoy woodsy scent in a a bit more natural and smooth slightly sweet type of scent you may love just both of them. They both are very comfy and close to the skin wear.

I agree with DANIEL'S REVIEW (BELOW)...COMPLETELY.

Indeed very similar to Serge Lutens' Douce Amere, but I like this one better due to it's rounder and softer, "muted" character. When I've have finished my bottle of DA, I'll get this one instead of "the real stuff" ;-)

Paname is a poor man's Douce Amere. They smell almost identical at first spritz, but where cinnamon and creamy tiare tame the medicinal blast of absinthe in Douce Amere, Paname's drydown stays a little more herbal and astringent. If I hadn't smelled Douce Amere first, I would probably be head-over-heels in love with Paname. Instead, I am a little underwhelmed and willing to pony up the cash for the better fragrance.

This is a wow perfume; not in an obvious, over the top way, but in classy, womanly kind of way. This scent is very sexy and very feminine. I've received rave reviews the first time I wore it. It's magnetic.

One of my all time favorite scents. Completely unique. It is a bit sweet for a man, but I like to push the envelope. However, it's never too sweet or cloying. When people ask me what I'm wearing, I won't tell them. Smells so good you'll want to keep it a secret. 10 Stars!

What comes to mind with Paname is a mix of sunlight, sex, and warm, delicious skin. Think "morning after" -- you're pouty-mouthed, hair is toussled perfectly so, you've got bedroom eyes, you're wearing his shirt (which still carries slight remnants of his cologne), and ... you want more.

It does remind me of Douce Amere -Serge Lutens. Very beautiful. And, for me, very, Paris.

Love it! Reminds me of Serge Lutens Douce Amere but less sharp and sweeter. Will be purchasing a bottle soon.

A good scent all around, for those looking for something different--in the way spicy, leather notes. Almost has a subtle tobacco-woodsy undertone (maybe it's the absinthe?). Definitly a good pick for an exotic evening scent!

There is something sort of sweet in it, maybe it's the absinthe. It's a note I've noticed in other perfumes. However, I do like Loukhoum - another perfume in the line.

Intriguing, sophisticated scent. At first seems to be related to L'Artisan Passage d'Enfer - subtly smoky and woody - and then it develops into something richer and rounder. Quite nice, although the vanilla flower and powdery musk took prominence after about an hour on me. Once those notes developed, I lost the spice and absinthe, and it smelled more commonplace, somehow. Delicious, but not delirious, which is what I am hoping to find.
