I got a sample of this after reading some good reviews, but it smells cheap on me compared to other vanilla fragrances I have tried. It actually smells on me like White musk from the body shop. I need to go and wash it off now!!

Reminds me of Shalimar with an extra shot of vanilla. Dries down to more of an overall vanilla scent, but it wears off so quickly you barely have time to notice.

i love it! this is just wanderful. it's a pitty it doesn't stay... the scent lasts for only about 2 hours...and this is really little. i don't know which my favourite is. I have Mexic and Antille too, and I can never decide. I think Antille is sweeter and Mexic has a "darker" scent, more 'decadent'...

Sweet, spicy vanilla with hints of cinnamon, tonka & toffee. The patchouli comes through later on, & a whiff of jasmine in the drydown. As other reviewers have said, it's dark & sexy rather than cupcake sweet. Very, very nice, I'd consider a full bottle if I didn't already have so many other bottles to get through!

Really wonderful vanilla scent, very soft, a bit powdery. The onyl problem is that it doesnt stay at all...I finished the bottle in 2 weeks :(

The bottles from sephora have and an exp date for sept 08. Read your bottles and if you go to the the La Maison de la Vanille website you will notice that they have new bottles. That is probably why Sephora had the mark down. To play it safe I would ask any etailer if you will be receiving the new bottle. Who wants a nearly exp fragrance anyway? I am a fan of all their fragrances Tahiti is my favorite and if I had to do without one it would be Antilles. If anyone knows if there has been a reformulation, please let us know.

I don't know if I can add anything to the other comments. This is by far the sexiest vanilla scent I've ever smelled. This is not "cupcake" vanilla, this is seductive and spicy. Just a little sweet, but not too much. I'm in love!

I love vanilla, so I LOVE this scent. Definitely a sexy scent. One of the better vanilla scents out there and it also lasts a long time on my skin. One of my staple scents.

I don't get it. This smells horrible. I,ve tried it several times and it stinks. Do not waste your money on this stinker. Vanilla Madagascar is a far better scent.

I love this perfume - it's my "standard." I get compliments on this scent constantly and it's perfect for a day at the office or a night out (not too overpowering but definately sexy and alluring). My husband never grows tired of it. I have other scents that I wear now and then but I feel like this is my match. I definately recommend this. It's an interesting vanilla - I find most vanilla scents make me smell like a cookie or frosting. The best part is, I've never come across anyone else who wears it. Love love love. I only hope that Lucky Scent gives me a heads up to buy a case if it ever is discontinued.

My favorite la masion scent. It's like Mexican vanilla and Mexican chocolate mixed together.

this is my hands down favorite scent. Its sweet, but musky and sexy. I love the prominant tonka note. This is also an incredably good deal.

Once upon a time, when I was 14 years old, I made a mix of "Vanilla" and "White Clover" in one of those "make your own perfume" shops at the Mall. (A shop, mind you, not a cart.) I am not saying that this is the same... it isn't. But there's something about the powderiness that reminds me of that lost youthful perfume experiment...a scent of clover honey and spread across a fairly deep cocoa sprinkled vanilla, combined with some tuberose that has a powderiness but still a body to it. A little sweet for me nowadays, but pretty nice all the same.

Subtle. Sophisticated. Delicate. Delicious. This is a man magnet. Apply with care, and enjoy at your own risk!

This is my absolute FAVORITE fragrance. The vanilla is enhanced beautifully by the other notes. I get so many compliments when I wear this! LOVE IT!

I could not love this scent more. The bergamot and patchouli are perfect with the vanilla. I've never considered myself a patchouli fan, but it's so subtle in this. It smells slightly foody, but not in a smack-you-over-the-head-with-a-cake kind of way. I've been searching for years for a fragrance that just felt totally like "me" and this is it. Every time I spritz it, I love it as much as the first time I smelled it. My only gripe is that I wish the scent lasted longer. I've ordered the matching lotion, so hopefully that'll help extend the life of the scent.

Vanille Noire du Mexique is the sexiest vanilla scent around! It is dark, incense-y, warm, and very mysterious. I can totally understand how this scent may not be someone's cup of tea, though--it is on the heavier side and quite distinctive. Not at all foody, but more on the woodsy side of vanilla. If you like a true vanilla, try one of the Comptoir scents--but the Mexique is still one of my favorites!

Definitly try it before you buy it, on me it is soapy, gross, and headache-inducing. Their other vanillas are much better IMHO.

oo la la ole! OK - it's a french perfume for a mexican vanilla - whatever - it's gorgeous, warm, and ok lasting power for the price. Vanilla is definitely the overlord of this scent, with the flowers just giving a quiet support. Yum, yum and lovely.

On me I thought it was a nice, soft vanilla musk. My husband, however, took one whiff and said "What smells like cotton candy?" Perhaps my chemistry makes it smell a bit oversweet...

Mmmmmmm.....a wearable, comfortable, creamy-dreamy, not-too-foody vanilla! Finally a vanilla that doesn't make me hungry for cake---there's a mysterious undercurrant that blends in so seductively. This is one scent where I enjoy ALL the notes, and the dry down just gets better. Esquisite at any price, this is a steal for what it costs. I will be buying the full size. LOVE IT!

This is among THE very best for any fan of gourmand scents. Unfortunately that is not quite me but I really enjoy this one and will wear my sample on occasion. It comes highly recommended.

Just delightful. I love vanilla but am wary of "cupcake" scents. This is certainly not too sweet and retains some darker mysterious notes. The drydown is a musky, tender vanilla. The patchouli is really just a whisper. Overall, a delicious scent.

Mexique gets compliments from everyone: both random strangers and people I know. It's so sexy, yet it's comfortable and pretty enough for day wear. Mexique is a permanent staple in my fragrance wardrobe. I love it's Aztec Hot Cocoa beginning and deep mysterious drydown. It's a fragrance for intrigue and romance.

SIMPLY AMAZING! The price cannot be beat either. I have had so many compliments on this fragrance and my boyfriend loves it, too! I use the fragrance and the body lotion and I can still smell my fragrance in the evening.

The darkest and sexiest of the LMDV line, this one's just yummy (not too foody, though). Love it!

This does not smell at all like vanille of De filles a la Vanille. This is a very foody ,sweet vanille. reminds me a lot of Hanae Mori same drydown. It is good and the price is great but it doesn't last at all.I rather stick to Comptoir Sud Pacific for this kind of vanillas.

The spiciness of this scent is softened a bit by the vanilla lurking beneath. Dark, sexy and seductive. I can't believe how good the scents from this line are, considering how cheap they are too! Beats Des Filles a la Vanille any day!

This is a very rich dreamy vanilla smell. It's very intoxicating and truely does melt into your skin. I think this smells a lot like vanille by des filles vanille, except Mexique is about $50 cheaper.

I love Shalimar, I can't wear this scent. It reminds me of Angel more than anything else. I got a distinct soapy note which completly destroyed the "edible" aspect I was striving for. Something in this turns me off.
Rating:
Emily  -Research Tech from Seattle

On me, the "darkness" of this scent translates into a delicious spiciness... almost cinnamony. When that dries down, what's left is a whisper of sugary vanilla. As everyone's noted, Mexique is simply terrific. Lighter and more subtle to my nose than the other La Maisons, it's one of the best, nonetheless.

Tahiti and Mexique are my signature fragrance. Mexique is very soft and pretty. This is a very feminine fragrance. Makes me feel extra girly. I recommend to get Mexique first if you want to try La Maison.Mexique is like the color pink, pretty and feminine.

This is my favorite of the whole line. I love this fragrance. It does kind of smell like Shalimar but then it fades to a beautiful vanilla.

Starts off a bit dark, goes powdery for a couple of minutes, and then becomes one of the most lovely true vanilla scents I have smelled.

When I first sprayed the Mexique, I realized that it smells exactly like Shalimar, which is good. But the dry down became too powdery and not nearly as nice as Shalimar. I'm going back to Comptoir Sud Pacifique for my favorite "true" vanillas.

a perfect date fragrance. not at all overpowering, yet not without power. if you are seeking a "man-magnet", this is the thing. it's not what i call "edible" though--more musky with a sweet touch of vanilla. great value, too. i'm a cook and could still detect it after i'd gotten through lunch.
