“Heart of the Sacred Vetiver” is truly a journey into the core of this astounding material. The young perfumer Karine Vinchon, who also authored L’Artisan Parfumeur’s organic L’Eau de Jatamansi, has explored and amplified the many facets of vetiver by playing on two different qualities of it, vetiver from Haiti and “vetiver coeur” – a treatment of the essence that yields its heart notes.
The citrus top notes are brought out with orange, bergamot and ginger, the latter subtly boosting the grapefruit note naturally present in vetiver. Tarragon brings in anisic freshness; pink pepper spices the blend up.
As Coeur de Vétiver Sacré moves into its heart notes, the dried apricot effect is picked up by osmanthus, whose tea-like facet is brought out by black tea. The iris lends a touch of violet before segueing into the woody drydown – another facet of vetiver. The leather effect of the iris and osmanthus flows seamlessly into gaiac wood, castoreum and birch tar, which reprises the smokiness of vetiver.
The result is a shimmering take on the star material with delicately sweet and balsamic accents, as easy to slip on as a silk scarf and as effortlessly elegant…
