Safran Troublant
Eau de Toilette
by L’Artisan Parfumeur

The Scoop
Saffron long ago cherished by Chinese, Romans and Greeks, and spread by Zeus on his couch to arouse his senses. Saffron that colours Phoenicians’ love sheets and even corrupts the Vestals. Safran Troublant subtly mingles with sandalwood and red rose, a symbol of passion, saffron and vanilla make a mysterious love potion, a sensuous and dangerously arousing golden essence.

This is an incredibly sweet scent. The sweetness was unbearable for me. It doesn't smell terrible, its just not for me. If you like sweet scents (that aren't too girly), you'll probably love this.

Not for me. I was curious about this but alas, it didn't work on me. I ended up giving the sample to a friend. I didn't smell any vanilla, just saffron and maybe some strong rose too. The overall impression is intense and in your face. It might work for someone else though. That's the magic of perfume and body chemistry and personal taste.

At first the smell is intense, sandalwood and saffron takes all the olfactory attention. After, your skin do the job, briging rose and vanilla back to ease the scent. It's love at first sight but ...i've try it 3 days, and slowly i've lost the first glimpse of captivation ...even been irritated by the scent. Unfortunatly i can't accept this perfume everyday. a perfume for special occasion i guess... i hope you'll like it... it won't be mine.

So absolutely lovely. I'm having a hard time typing this because I want to just sit and smell my arm all day. I was a little concerned about the rose note, not being a big fan of rose scents personally, but there's just a hint of rose and it's sweet and natural, not cloying room freshener rose. I would classify this as a comfort frangrance and would wear it day and night. My husband likes this one very much. A very warm and inviting scent.

This is such a yummy, warm scent. I've tried about 10 other L'Artisan samples and this was "the one" for me. I can't stop smelling my arm and I keep pulling on my shirt to get a wiff since I also dab it on my neck area. One word to describe this scent: Sexy.

I smell saffron, vanilla, sandalwood and just a hint of rose. Beautiful. Kind of sweet, kind of spicy. Absolutely gorgeous!!

An extremley LIGHT scent, this one hugs the skin...not a lot of throw. I smell a spicy vanilla (maybe a squish of ginger and cinnamon). Safran Troublant is pretty, but I think this would make a better room scent. Smells more like potpourri than perfume.

This perfume is a little marvel. Most of perfumelovers don't see it while testing "l'artisan parfumeur" perfumes, because it is lovely and seems demure, and after having tested too much perfumes you don't see the point with it. The fact is that, beyond the seemingly simple et lovely construction of this perfume (saffron, rose, sandalwood, vanilla), is hidden one of the most cheerful, suave and delectable perfumes ever. It is the effect of saffron, wich give an hypnotical sweetness warmness and milkiness to the blend. I think that the saffron also produces an empyreumatical smell -a trick famous in Shalimar-, that give it incredible sweetness. I truly believe it to be aphrodisiac, it smells great, seemingly simple but extremely deep, and is very clever. It is EDT, so if you like it, and the saffron don't bother look, spray it a lot (say 5 times) on your arms, then you'll feel the rose, and the full strengh of this smell, its "love effect", its sedution. It's love in a bottle (I did not say "sex", I said LOVE, romantic and self-assured, that's rare today)

I wrote the comment about how this stuff smells like armpit below. But I've been informed by other folks that, somehow, it mixes with my particular body chemistry and smells like a spiced brownie on me. Definitely dessert-y. With, I think, a little writhing undercurrent of sex-funk too. I changed my mind. I do wanna smell like this every day this summer. Definitely.

This is like a light fresh spice scent. The opening smells like saffron with hint of lemon zest to it. That dies down and the other notes are all there in pretty equal measure, and the one thing i really like is that the rose here is not powdery and old fashioned smelling, like a lot of roses seem to be, to my nose anyway. The whole thing is very light and subtle, I had to put my nose right to my wrist to be able to smell this. I think I can see what others are referring to as a sweet creamy-milky smell, its the vanilla and rose that gently lift the saffron to make this smell like a subtle indian rice pudding, but for me at least, all the notes are so subtle that I could only just make them out. I don't know if this fits my definition of sexy, but its definitely unique and pretty in it's own way.

This smells like straight-up armpit on me. But in a good way. How can armpit smell good, you ask? It's that spicy smell a body gets when it's been rolling around with another body all day, with the windows open, in August. It langourous and foody and reminds me, very unexpectedly, of the boy who, um, deflowered me all those years ago. Oh, scent memory...you are a mysterious force. It's only getting 4 stars because I'm not sure I could handle smelling like sex-sweat every day.

One of the greatest scents I have ever owned .. Spicy and naughty but grown up girl too .. A woman who has lived and traveled a lot ... This is New Orleans AND St.Barth's - Managing to be both earthy and ethereal at the same tiime, its stunning leaves of spicy rose and vanilla entertain like a magical flower that grows ever lovelier hour to hour, until .. as the clock strikes midnight, it fades into the ether. Not a lasting fragrance, but then, nothing good lasts forever .. Sublime.

Oh, Safron Troublant, you are so lovely, light, and unique -- the prettiest combo of rose and spiciness. Why, oh, why do you have to fade so quickly?!! I am a practical girl, and I could therefore NEVER rationalize spending so much money on a perfume with such paltry staying-power. Honestly, I can't get more than an hour out of this perfume.

Fabulously unique! Spicy warm saffron dominates, (I could swear there is ginger in this) with an understated sandalwood and warm vanilla, and the barest hint of rose. Sexy, mildly sweet, never overbearing. My husband smiles when I wear it.

Straight up rose on me. Develops some milkiness as it goes on; really nice.

In the vial: Saffron, but not much else. On the skin: Saffron. Not much else. It blooms on the skin, though; it starts off like the spice in dried form, then the smell and grows louder and stronger. The only other note I detect in here is the sandalwood, but it only manifests as a slightly dusty aroma. The other notes reportedly in the blend never show up during the evolution even when the saffron dies down to almost nothing. The skin is left with an impression of dust turned golden by the sun. It's lovely, in theory, but this scent is not me. It's a damn shame. Saffron is usually very beautiful with my chemistry. This is a beautiful, second-skin scent. It's exotic and understated. I just couldn't pull it off.

I loved this....its my favorite! Very warm, spicy, sexy and delicious; I've had half a dozen people ask me what it is...my husband who rarely likes perfume (he says they smell like chemicals) loves it too. It does'nt overpower the person standing next to you but its still subtly there....very, very nice.

I can honestly say that I am stunned. I have always despised any fragrance with even a HINT of rose. From past experience, I have ended up smelling like my grandmother, along with having a whopper of a headache. Not so with Safran Troublant. I received this as a sample, and had no intention, whatsoever, of EVER opening it. 2 weeks ago, I found it in my desk drawer, still unopened. I decided to apply it VERY sparingly, and proceeded to take care of some paperwork. I literally could not stop sniffing my wrists. It's WONDERFUL! The rose scent is faint, and the spice scents are just gorgeous. I am hooked, in love, enamoured. In other words, I will be ordering this scent as soon as I am done typing my rating!

Several profiles I have read for my zodiac sign, Cancer, have suggested that Cancers would enjoy slightly spicey scents, as they sooth the digestive system (one of our weaknesses). We are simultaneously sexy and homey/domestic. Saffron Troublant is a good fragrance manifestation of these qualities. It's sexy, but in a long-term relationship kind of way. It's soft, sensual, and comforting. It's just spicey enough to be a little zesty but still feminine. I do get the sweetness, however I don't find it to be a sugary kind of sweet.Imagine spending time in a beautiful yet cozy kitchen, cooking sexy ethnic food . . . a vanilla soy candle or incense stick burning in the background and the slight scent wafting through the air of a bouquet of fresh-cut roses in the vase on the table. The lasting power is not as good as I would like it to be, but once I have a spray bottle and not my little sample vial to dab, I think applying even spritzes in the right places will help.Over all, very nice.

A beautifully warm, softly sweet scent. Reminiscent of Loukhoum by KM, but much, much, better, as it is far less heavy and cloying. There is a much better balance of the rose and sugar notes here; the rose stays softly at the edges, with just enough presence to soften the scent without making it overtly powdery. I usually only like the scent of roses on the flower itself, but the combination here works so well. The resulting aroma hints a bit at nutmeg and indescribable florals, which is a good thing. When attempting to mimic a single floral note, the results can be far too over-powering for anything beyond a candle or room fragrance, but L'Artisan has really captured the subtlety, warmth, and deepness of all of the notes in Safran Troublant; it is a quiet, soft, gourmand fragrance, that you will absolutely adore.

This is a beautiful perfume. super feminine. I loved the way the rose seemed softened by the saffron and chocolate notes. Worth checking out. I dabbed it on my friend's wrists and it smelled lovely on them too.

I am NEVER one for anything that has even the faintest scent of a rose. However, I requested this as a sample with a perfume order...that Lucky Scent was so sweet to accomodate!, and I really, REALLY, do like it! I keep smelling my arm, waiting for something to change. But, it has not. It's a bit spicier, and would smell heavenly on my guy. But I do think I will keep this for myself. It is a very tiny bit sweet, but with my chemistry, it is not old-lady-rose, just spicey, and VERY sexy. I will give it another 3 days, and will probably buy it at that point. Just want to make sure. Bravo, again, to L'Artisan.

I was so pleased when they brought this out in a big bottle. I bought the love potions set and i really thought all of them were great but this one was easily the sexiest. I loved the soft power of the red rose with a sweetness that was not sickly but instead made me think of big cakes of palm sugar. the saffron is what made it. Had tonnes of staying power on me...but that doesn't mean i didn't WANT to reapply. I love L'Artisan. LOVE them.

OMG! Upon first whiff I fell in love with this scent. Thankfully, it smelled heavenly on me as well. I would describe this scent as floating in a most beautiful dream. I have concerns about staying power, but this is too sensual and dreamy to pass on. It's truly amazing.

The most pleasant of L'Artisan "spice" scents... Still, a tad peculiar for me to imagine it might ever become one of my favorites. Of course I will whip out my sample vile at some TBA future date and give it a second or third or fourth whiff... Interesting, just not for me.

Ooh! This is soo nice! It's very yummy! Saffrn is the main note and I can smell it very clearly. I don't really get the other notes so clearly. Maybe it's because I love Milanese saffron rice, haha! Actually it smells warm and foody, but not too sweet. Poor lasting power as all L'Artisan, but a very cosy and snugging scent!
