Private Collection: L'Oiseau de Nuit Eau de Parfum by Parfumerie Generale

L’oiseau de Nuit (night bird) is another in the long list of reasons we love Parfumerie Generale: their elixirs are unusual yet elegant, they’re edgy but not weird, they’re sumptuous and they always stand out. L’oiseau is a perfect example of PG’s exciting spin on things with this complex and modern salute to leather, although leather is only a minor player in this perfume. Cistus labdanum is the key ingredient, an amber-like, resinous scent that’s like sweet, earthy honey. A swirling core of fruit and floral notes are set ablaze by the addition of benzoin and penetrating note of liqueur of davana. Very sweet and earthy all at once, L’oiseau makes your eyes glaze over and your jaw tighten with the need to get as close to it as possible… we’re not sure if we possess it or it possesses us, but if the panting and grabby hands we see every time someone tries it are any clue, we think this intoxicating brew has a bit of the devil in it.
