Lys du Desert
Eau de Parfum
by Decennial

The Scoop
The perfume idea for Lys du Desert, created exclusively for Luckyscent, came to Perfumer and friend Andy Tauer when he first visited Joshua Tree National Forest, and the Desert Lily was in full bloom in the Pinto Basin – a rare occurrence only a few weeks out of the year. Its white lily scent was intoxicating, with hints of green freshness that reminded him of the oasis at Cottonwood Springs, a site with lush green vegetation at the north entryway. His ode to what spawned LA – the rugged yet delicate, unforgiving yet captivating desert – is captured in Lys de Desert. Andy combines this special, creamy botanical with the warmth and dryness of the desert, a natural space that has fueled his olfactory imagination for years.

In its opening, a hot desert wind sweeps through Lys du Desert, carrying with it an oasis of green freshness. But freshness is only hinted at. Bone-dry ambery woods, reinforced by powdery iris root, envelop these notes, suggesting the magical combination of flowers and desert. The dry woody amber that leads the fragrance reminds you where the desert lily blooms: among Creosote bushes and isolated pines in the wonderland of rocks further up the hills. As it dries down, Lys du Desert becomes an interplay between sweet florals, warm amber, and dry woods. Remarkable and stunning.

Lovely, exquisite, unusual. I am really enjoying it!

This one is nice, but I don't think it is the best of the set, like others have noted. There's a lot going on in the inital blast but it mellows to have a suede/blonde woods undertone that reminds me of a lot of Serge Lutens fragrances. This whole line of Decennial carries this common undertone. In the end each one has the same suede - cedar scent. This one is drier than most except for the Santal one. Not a bad scent. It's light and woody with a little amber. Nice.

An amazing scent. This is the long lost brother/sister of Orris. More dynamic than Orris though, ever changing. I received my sample and had purchased a bottle within 15 minutes of applying it. Quite possibly my new favorite Andy Tauer scent. I would snatch up a bottle, who knows how long this will be in production.

Lys de Desert nods at some of Andy's earlier work--notably Orange Star, L'Air du Desert Marocain, and Lonestar Memories--yet smells distinctive. Somehow, Tauer managed to fit the seemingly disparate pieces of orange blossom, powder, lily, and birch tar together to from a cohesive and legible form that never feels heavy or confused. Recommended.

Yep! This one is the best of of the line. When Tauer makes a fragrance with the word Desert in it... well you know the rest!

By far the best of this collection - in fact, the whole box smelled of this sample as only this perfume leaked a bit when I opened my new perfumes and samples. If I hadn't read the description, I would have said Rose well before Lily (the latter is not my favorite flower) - it has hints of other Tauer winners, and that's a good thing (incense Rose, a bit of Lonestar Memories). For a floral, this is darker and woodier, not a light lady like floral (that's a good thing too). I really love this perfume - a nice surprise - nice drydown too.

This was my favourite of the Decennial set (all of which I liked). Sweetish, spicy, intriguing. I'd deliberately not looked at the nose for each scent, but somehow it's no surprise to find that the parfumeur was Andy Tauer. It's got the typical complexity and richness.

Oh Andy, this is exquisite. I smell Incense Rose, Creosote fromLone star memories and LddM. The best from each one. I almost ordered a full bottle of this just on the strength of it's name, and yours. However, I got a sample pack first. Silly me, now I have to wait for the full bottle. Andy well done this is another stunning and beautiful, beautiful perfume.

This was lovely - I definitely smelled parts of Orange Star in this, plus a lot of iris, and something in it reminds me of L'Heure Bleue by Guerlain. Definitely a beauty!
