The Scoop
At The Beach is the exact recreation of a hot summer’s day spent lying in the sun and the scent of Coppertone, the sand and the surf filling your nose. For perfumer Christopher Brosius, this was a trip back to his summers on the North Atlantic (which we think must smell just like the Pacific.) An absolutely brilliant and faithful interpretation of classic Coppertone meets beach, there is no other perfume we’ve ever smelled that manages to capture a specific moment—long-ago summers on the beaches of America—as this one does. Even if you were landlocked and a pool was your beach, if you loved the smell of classic Coppertone tanning lotion, your jaw will hit the floor when you try this.

Absolutely fabulous perfume! My husband fell in love with it from the first time I wore it. It is fresh and and develops beautifully on the skin. I always loved smell of Coppertone, it was a genius way to bottle it up in perfume.

How on earth do they do this? This smells exactly like your skin after a day at the beach- the residual of suntan lotion, the warmth of suntanned skin, the salt water. Unbelieveable. A great fragrance when you want a beachy feel, but don't want to broadcast that you are wearing a beach perfume.

Good Lord, this is impressive. This is *exactly* the smell of a hot day at the beach in the late 1960s. One whiff and I can see the white zinc oxide on my Uncle Joel's nose and feel the elastic around the leg holes of my Speedo chafing me where the sand and salt got caught beneath it. It's an extraordinarily accurate, and extraordinarily evocative, olfactory replication. Mind you, I'm not sure if I would really want to smell of 1960s Coppertone all that often -- to those of you too young to remember the old formula, it was very chemical-smelling, not very much at all like the coconut scent they use today -- but just smelling this makes me feel so very happy that I want a bottle. This is the sort of fragrance you wear for yourself, not to please others or to project an image. It's really a work of art.

Wow. This is like a time machine - I can feel hot sand and the polyester flowers on the hem of my bikini top. The perfume nails old-school Coppertone, exactly. If you weren't around back in day, it smelled more floral and plastic-y than it does today. It's happiness in a bottle. I'll be wearing it on those dreary Seattle winter days.

Well...yep, it's smells like classic Coppertone. To the student who posted earlier: this must be based on mid-60s era Coppertone, hence the name, and maybe why you don't associate it with the newer smell of modern Coppertone. ;) I wasn't around in the 60s, but I was out and about as a kid in the 70s and I can tell you this is like a memory in a bottle. Bain de Soleil, Coppertone, Hawaiian Tropic...I used to *live* in this stuff. This is very Coppertone-y, though -- so much so that it's more of a scent experience than a perfume. Whew. I t's *exact* whereas some perfumes like Bobbi Brown's Beach and what not are just..."inspired by." So, if you're a Gen Xer and you were running around in the sun a lot as a kid (and around adults slathered in tanning oils), you'll know this straight away. Neat stuff!

I am a huge fan of Coppertone, but this perfume does not smell anything like Coppertone. It has a really strong jasmine smell. It is nice, but nothing like the sunscreen.

Think I am not old enough to remember Coppertone days but anyhow this is a light and unique scent. I would rather have some coco note in it as well. I ordered absolu and water and use them together and it has a great staying power and doesnt overwhelm! Wont buy the second bottle though.

Yes, it does smell exactly like a day at the beach, way back when. But I ended up realizing that I wasn't nostalgic for the smell of coppertone. Surprisingly, my daughter (who of course never smelled coppertone) really loves the scent.

I bought a sample of the absolute and I agree with others that sun tan lotion is the strongest note. Followed by that salty at the beach kind of thing. CB definitely nailed the smell of the beach and that's my reason for 3 stars, but personally it's not a scent I could wear. I love all those scents but I'd rather actually be at the beach with real sun screen and the ocean. Plus the whole time I wore this my mind kept telling me I needed to shower. Since after all, at the beach = sunscreen, sweat, sand and salt. It's nice at the beach, but not what I want anywhere else.

Wow, this fragrance takes me back to 1962, sitting on the beach in my Jantzen swimsuit, applying my Coppertone over and over to not sunburn. I have Bobbi Brown's Beach products, but the Beach 1966 is fuller smelling and long lasting. I'll wear this fragrance for the rest of my life!

I'm shocked that such a wonderful site as Lucky Scent would deal with this company. I order several samples from this so-called perfumer and was appalled by the lack of quality. The four perfume samples I received smelled and looked like dish soap (they even bubble in the vial.) Extremely disappointed.

This is exactly the scent of coppertone suntan lotion and the beach! It's salt water, sea breezes, sand and seaweed. I love this perfume and it's a real pick me up when you have the winter blues and longing for the warmer weather to arrive.

This smells exactly like good old fashioned Coppertone to me. It is not dressed up with anything sweet or coconutty. It is pretty cool, but not sure I need to smell like this.

I remember as a child being on the beaches in 1966. This perfume is exactly how I remember the beach smelling then. It is quite amazing. I asked others here at work to smell it but nobody here was in NY or USA in the 60's or 70's. They didn't associate it with a smell from the beach. Isn't it funny if you have different memories to to draw on then a scent will evoke a different experience. On a good note, at least they all like it. I love it!
