Here's what other people are saying about Iris de Nuit...
I always try samples "blind", so I don't know what to expect. My impression was of a very pretty scent that would have been fashionable in the 1920s-- and I mean that as a compliment. Very elegant, with a perfectly balanced iris note- there, but part of the team. Fairly quiet, but adds to the charm. Lovely.

Like all of James Heeley's fragrances, Iris de Nuit has a gentle soul. It's an almost astonishingly beautiful iris perfume, made with a truly luxurious amount of orris butter. It also has a *very* quiet, gentle musk and a fruity little violet encased within. If you're a serious, hardcore iris purist, this could be just a bit too floral for you, but if you want just a teeny a bit of comfort with your iris (without going full-on fruit cocktail like Impossible Iris), this is for you. I like my irises any way I can get them, so there are times when only Iris de Nuit will do. It wears well year-round--fruity enough for warm weather but iris's chill always works when it's cold.

(And yes, he loves it too.)

Is it wrong for me to buy this because it smells heartbreakingly amazing on him instead? I too love the imagery of crisp fresh white bedsheets, in a very urban modern downtown loft for an upscale masculine aristocrat. Soft music, gentle breeze, amazing view. Nearing the end of twilight just before the evening truly begins. Not a trace of sex; it feels like his breath is gently tracing down your neck instead. Totally classic. I swoon every time I get a whiff, and makes me want to lean in all the time. I think I have an obsession with dressing him with perfumes that I painfully wish for, but can never wear.

Has the grape candy note I crave in blue irises. I like this perfume best when I first put it on. The scent fades quickly, but what's left is pleasant too. I could see wearing this regularly during the day.

This is finally the "ONE". I have tried many different Iris frags and they all seemed a bit too sweet and heavy. This gorgeous perfume is light but long lasting, and very soft and woody. Very comforting and warm. Love it!

Minimal Iris scent here, quite, even after dry-down. To me the cedar and amber are more prominent when it settles.

This is a strange one. It smelled very feminine in the bottle, almost too sweet, but on my body it was undoubtedly a masculine cologne. I found it to be a really wonderful masculine scent, a woodsy iris. I don't think this would be appropriate for everyone though, so my suggestion is to buy the sample first.

This is what Iris is suppose to smell like. It is a light fragrance but it does last it just doesn't shout its presence, and that is how fragrance should be. Iris de Nuit is a very aristocratic Eau de Parfum.

It's a very clean, light, fresh, and watery iris. Like most iris frags, it has a bit of the lipstick/makeup quality (which I like), but its more airy and earthy than it is heavy or waxy. I actually wish it smelled more like lipstick. It is on the dry side, so it tends toward the antiseptic but in a good way. If it were more musky and richer/rounded, I would say it even resembles Creed's Erolfa, which is one of my favs.

This is the most beautiful iris I've ever smelled. This stays close to the skin. It's not powdery more woodsy. My favorite Iris together with Pradas infusion d'iris. The two dont resemble each other one bit though.

Maybe a bloodhound could detect this, but I sure couldn't! EDP? I don't think so. Probably best worn by someone who works in a scent-phobic environment

The purest and lightest iris scent ever. Almost has no smell at all. But the iris there is, is very light dry iris - stays very minimal. Most other iris scents go into other floral notes, or woods, musk or greens - but this one stays like pure iris. Almost a soliflore iris, IMO.

This is the smell I've been looking for such a long time. I like something fresh and a bit flowery but not as a splash (you go through the bottle in a week) but not as pungent as Isaye Miyake's junk. This scent is *perfect* for summer: it's subtle, fresh, clean, yet VERY distinctive. You smell clean, happy, elegant, witty and intelligent. Did I mention that I can still smell it when I go to bed? Did I mention that I'm in love with this fragrance.

Fresh top note, like a cut stalk of iris. Drys down semi-sweet and clean. A unique scent, and long lasting. Perfect fragrance for spring and summer.

I got a sample of this today and dabbed a bit on my wrist. The first 10 minutes or so were an absolute stenchfest...rancid, almost pukey smell. AND THEN...it became one of the loveliest scents I have ever smelled in my life. Light, deep, sweet (but not too sweet), and very uplifting/soothing. Heeley knows what he is doing...and I was very happy with my introduction to Iris. 8,000 stars. :)

This smells like an Upper East Side NY bachelor apartment to me. Modern, not old-fashioned, and belonging to a man, not a boy. Very Masculine and somewhat upper class, but in a subtle way - the apartment of a well-educated man who grew up with money and isn't showy about it. I remember the surprise I felt the first time I saw a totally masculine apartment without the slightest trace of female energy in it - such a mysterious, alien world.

Smells very dank to me. Almost sour. I just didn't enjoy this at all. The (please don't hate) almost bile-like smell was so distasteful I'm throwing my sample OUT. Sacrilege - perhaps but that's how much I didn't not care for this.

I adore iris scents and this one is no exception. The cedar and ambergris (I agree with the previous poster who said this is more natural ambergris than it is amber) are quite prominent on me. This is a great scent for office wear. It's not so overtly feminine and 'frou frou' that it seems awkward and out of place in a business meeting. It seems quite at home and perfectly in place in my office.
