Luminous gardenia, jasmine and freesia are kissed by warm vanilla and caressed by the sheerest musk. Goodness me! Heaven has arrived. It is a smooth vanilla at first, but then a real dry down of orchid that lasts and lasts. I have dry skin that evaporates everything, so this is a total blessing. Get some--you will not be disappointed.

eh, this was a totally boring sweet vanilla, it does smell orchid-y, but still slightly foody. It wasn't bad but there are so many better vanillas to get excited about and I just didn't find this exciting.

This is Susanne Lang's breakout fragrance. Really gorgeous. The freesia and the soft musk temper the sweetness. And I find it lasts longer on me than other posters have experienced. That said, it's the only one of her scents that behaves like a niche fragrance. The others smell cheap after the drydown -- a trait they share with the highly touted Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, which Luckyscent does not handle. The initial experience with both Susanne Lang and BPAL is intriguing but a half an hour later, it just smells like drugstore brew. There is a clear expectation of quality ingredients in a niche fragrance. In all fairness, the Susanne Lang price point is obviously more affordable than other scents on this site. The potential to take this line to the next level is there, though.

This is most certainly not your spring-floral kind of 'floral'. What you will find here is a seductive creamy unbelievably sexy scent. Pure DRAMA!!! and then some! I also detect a very slight tobacco note and goodness is it intoxicating!

I've been lemming this for awhile and am so happy to have it finally. This is the perfect blend of soft white florals mixed with caramelly vanilla. Amazing silage, and I love to pair this with the body shop's nut lotion. HEAVEN!!!

I just LOVE this fragrance...the only negative is that is doesn't last long, and I need to refresh it several times during the day. I find the white flowers and vanilla intoxicatingly dreamy. My husband hates most perfumes, but he loves this, Kai and Black Gardenia. This will definitely be on my list to keep wearing!

This isn't what I was expecting, but after reading the description more carefully, I see that I was mistaken on what I should anticipate. I thought that this scent would be a heady jasmine/gardenia/freesia floral scent, with a hint of vanilla musk. I didn't realize that it was from SL's Ultimate Vanilla collection, so I feel kind of dumb for being surprised that this is almost pure vanilla on me. It is a very high quality vanilla - it smells like fine, expensive bean extract. The musk is the second most powerful note, in my opinion. The florals are very subdued and are so far in the background that they are hardly identifiable. Because of its creaminess, I guess I'd say that I can sense the gardenia a little bit. Very VaVaVoom Vanilla!! I can see why it's loved by many, but I'm not all that excited about it, being more of a floral lover.

p.s. on the comment below: he only smelled sewer when I made him smell my wrist. He thought the sillage smelled pretty (He was in the car waiting for me and when I came out to the car and sat down, I asked him what his first thought was about my smell and he said, "smells pretty"--he's always very honest too!

I just loved this so much that I bought the full bottle but my husband kept telling me that it smells like sewer!! (spell?) I was soo sad! I kept trying to have him smell it on different days but he still smelled poo. I am giving it a 5 for me, but a 1 for the hubby :( Tell me if you think it smells like poo...

Susanne Lang's fragrances have replaced all others for me. Midnight Orchid is exactly like luckyscent's scoop ~ a truly luscious, soft, alluring, feminine, everyday wearable, beautiful floral vanilla. I hope luckyscent will soon carry Susanne Lang's new line called SULA, of which I just purchased the Champagne Sugar, Stiletto Musk, Sun-Kissed Citrus & Vanilla Blossom (mix these last two together for a divine summer fragrance). I am in fragrance heaven!

Wow this perfume smells REALLY SWEET -- reminds me of honeysuckle (or maybe just a whole lot of honey). It is not a bad scent, but I'm not sure when I will next want to smell like a dessert.

The top notes are great (when you first spray) but after the dry down, you're left with something sweet and cheap smelling. I couldn't handle the smell, I had to wash it off immediately! Reminds me of high school perfume, like freshman year. It's almost like an AVON scent. UGH! A 13yr old might appreciate this. Sample first, trust me!

I love many vanilla fragrances but I don't wear a lot of them because they tend to become too cloying or one-dimensional on my skin. After awhile they're a little boring. This not not the case with Susanne Lang Midnight Orchid! I'm thrilled by the smell of this. It's light, yet elegant. I wish the tropical flowery topnotes lasted longer, but I love the burnt sugar drydown. Midnight Orchid lasts for many hours on my skin. I wish it had more sillage so it could waft to my nose and I could enjoy it without sniffing my skin, but it's worth the constant sniffing, I guess. It's just lovely. If I wear it in the evening I still smell it on my skin the next morning. Midnight Orchid is wonderful for layering with fragrances like Kai and Jo Malone Orange Blossom, but I enjoy it very much on its own. This is definitely one of my all-time favorite vanilla fragrances.

It's gorgeous, simply divine like white chocolate with musk. Sweet, warm, with depth and complexity. I'm buying this for my mom who also liked Black Gardenia. I recently purchased Nanadabery Pink for myself after sampling many, now I sort of wish I'd gone for this one instead because it is SO delicious.

Have to add my raves to the reviews. Absolutely lovely. On my skin, the green/floral notes remain alongside the vanilla. Not so for my daughter, where the vanilla was all you could smell, so definitely sniff before buying. However, it is a luscious scent also appropriate for work, as it stays close to your skin. Not for very thoughtful, moody days, but for feeling fresh and light it's fabulous. Definitely worth a full bottle.

I have no problem with the staying power of this, quite the opposite. I can still smell this 24 hours later and it's beautiful! I reach for this one all the time! So glad I purchased. Oh, and it layers wonderfully with Red Ginger.

Totally agree with other reviews. First a rush of gardenia that dries into a nice vanilla. A different vanilla from Comptoir or Creative Scentualization-a floral vanilla more than a sweet one. I did take away one star for the lack of staying power-it needs touch ups during the day. Wish they made it in an oil!

I agree with all the wonderful reviews of this fragrance below. The scent is incredibly pretty, soft and feminine. Pure heaven! And this is from a person who is not terribly into sweet scents and NEVER wore a vanilla scent before. Unfortunately, the previous reviewers are also correct about the lack of this scent's staying power. I find it to be the problem with many artisanal perfumes. It is always such a disappointment to have your favorite scent dissipate within hours if application! Artisanal perfumers would be well advised to look to their mainstream counterparts for improving the endurance of their products. I am tempted to take away one star for lack of staying power, but cannot. I am bewitched by this gorgeous scent.

I just ordered the full bottle -- this one is truly lovely! Just like highlighted hair looks better when it looks natural and not like you got highlights, I like scents that don't scream perfume. This smells perfectly feminine, and the vanilla and florals are blended in ideal balance. I think this could make a fall in love AND lust. I only question the staying power - the smell was very weak after only a few hours, but I was being very stingy with the sample. Then again, ever notice that people tend to not be able to smell a perfume that blends perfectly with their chemistry?

I have sampled over a dozen fragrances from Lucky Scent and this is the only fragrance that I felt compelled to write a review. I have two words to describe this fragrance: SIMPLY DIVINE!!! This is a pretty and warm floral that makes me smile each time I smell it because it is simply yummy. Thankfully, the vanilla note is not that syrupy, candied, sweet vanilla that is now abundant in some of the new popular fragrances catered to the younger set. This is a very grown up vanilla, with just the right amount added to make this fragrance smooth as velvet, sexy, and oh so alluring. This fragrance is so versatile that it can be worn at anytime. I am extremely finicky and selective when it comes to purchasing fragrances. So a fragrance has to be special and make me swoon before I lay out any money for it. This fragrance is it! The only downside is that the staying power is somewhat lacking, but I've only tried a sample vial. Still, it's a definite winner and I plan to purchase a bottle very soon.

Wow! Where to start with this fragrance? I have to admit that I was a little hesistant at first as I do not usually lean towards the lighter scents and I was a little afraid that it would be too sweet. What I found instead was that it had an amazing combination of fragrances that perfectly complimented each other, creating an overall warm and seductive vibe. I was rather upset to find out that is had been discontinued in Barneys NY, but was equally excited to discover that it could be purchased online here at Luckyscent. Black Orchid is now both my day and night fragrance, and has managed to push most of my other fragrances to the back of the dresser. I love it!
