Aesop
It is a treat for us to offer Aesop products whose entire raison d’être is scent. Usually the scents for which our products are known are the consequence of blending ingredients chosen for their effect on skin or hair. But when crafting Marrakech and Mystra, we applied our minds entirely to the business of perfume – how it can change one’s mood and call up memories.
To make Marrakech, we let our thoughts drift across warm seas, to a city draped in colours of the desert, where artisans sit on rugs hewn by hand, and lute music mixes with the smell of spices in hot wind. It led us to create a fragrance with Clove, Sandalwood, and Cardamom.
Mystra was inspired by the Peloponnese hillside town’s history of conquest and struggle, a place once home to French knights, despots, and monks, as well as its beautiful setting. It’s a place that reminds us of the complexity of human history. Accordingly, this fragrance is many layered, with top notes of Mastic, Frankincense, and Labdanum.
Creating scent is an exercise both lyrical and rooted in science. We hope you find the experience of wearing Aesop’s fragrances as rewarding as we find it to make them. |
